Updated RJ article says Beard expected to talk with Texas Tech

It's amazing looking back at the end of the Kruger era... how many people who weren't satisfied with our success at the time and wanted him gone. Sad looking back on it now; be careful what you wish for!!

And now, even at the end of the Rice era, which was truly a train-wreck. How relieved most people were and excited to start a new era.

And from that to this. If Beard does indeed leave, UNLV basketball will officially be in complete, utter ruins.

Looks like a downward trend to me. Looks like nowhere to go but up at this point, though.....

Let me get this straight...

So far Mark Anderson has tweeted out every possible scenario and the RJ has reported it as well. So now, no matter what happens they can say they broke the story. Seems like some seriously ethical journalism.

I wonder when people will realize that the local rags in this town are total garbage and as long as people give them credence they will continue to do this sort of crap. I stopped even clicking on anything they put out, no matter how interesting.

This is just the age of Twitter. I just signed up for an account so I can keep up.

No sour grapes here, but god you would think tampering like this would not be allowed by the NCAA. Annihilates our program.

I am repeating something I posted in another thread - coaches are "stolen" all the time and I do not remember one tampering lawsuit or penalty in college athletics.

What would the ByLaws say? How would a school hire a new coach?

I'd think you could put in verbiage that would call for encroachment during some initial period after a coach has signed a contract with a school. You can't approach a coach in the first year of his/her contract, maybe? I don't know, I'm just spit-balling here...

Well at least UNLV made a quick million.

Beard seemed lie a good HC coach but, to say UNLV has no hope if he leaves is crazy talk. The guy was a D1 head coach for one year. Lol.

Let's get Reggie - just like Tark said to do. Someone that wants the job and will bring back unity. Sign him for 2 or 3 years and see how he does. At this point better than trying for some outsider who is an average coach.

Why not Doug Gottlieb. ? Has a high B-ball IQ, has lots of contacts, had a plan in place for UNLV, nationally recognized name, and see ked out the job.

It's not so much losing the coach that hurts here. Not only would we have to convince somebody to take over a program that just showed what an incredibly stupid process they have in hiring a coach, that just lost all but 3 players, that by the time a contract could actually get approved recruiting will be about the leftovers, but he would have to do it with unreal Las Vegas expectations.

Sounds like an great opportunity for somebody.
