HOTLIST Update to hotlist

You have Chris Richardson Jr listed as a verbal for next season. I could be wrong on this but I think he may be eligible for this year. I will see if I can find out for sure. I believe he was at the Spring game. He looks bigger than the listed 6'3 285 if that seems possible. He is a BIG dude.

Talked to my brother and he says Richardson was a blue shirt and should be here in the fall. I think the way it works with that is if a kid does not initially qualify academically and a school had never made an offer during the recruiting process they can come in after the fact and make an offer once the player qualifies. (If that makes any sense). Fresno was on the kid but fell out after he didn't pass SAT. He got his studies in order and UNLV came in after. I'll see if I can get actual confirmation on whether he will be eligible this year or not. Will Levi may know better how it works.

It means he's a preferred walk on that can potentiality earn a full ride but he is a 2015 prospect rather than a 2016 guy.

Just so we are clear Richardson is in fact going to be eligible in the fall to play this year? Also why would they label it as a 'blue shirt' and not just a preferred walk on. Not sure I understand the differentiation. I also thought with that designation the scholarship did not count vs this years total and would count vs next year. (Its no wonder teams violate NCAA rules who could keep track of all of it)

That is incorrect. A blueshirted player joins the team in fall as a fully scholarshiped player but counts towards the following years class.

Think along the lines of a grayshirt but they can join in Fall rather than in January.

The information about not having been previously recruited by the school offering the grayshirt is correct.

Double checked myself, you are right.
Its technically a walkon with a scholarship applied at the start of camp but no prior paperwork. When he receives a scholarship after arriving on campus, he counts towards next season's offers.

Thanks for the confirmation on that. I new I had some of the particulars right but not all of them. Good thing he will be eligible this season if for no other reason than we need bodies up front on the defensive line. Like I said above saw the kid at the Spring game and he looks way bigger in person than he did on his highlight video.

I think u are doing a great job on the Hotlist. My only request is that perhaps u add a little bio next to the players name. Position, height, weight, other schools who have offered, things like that. I know there's a lot of names listed and if it's too time consuming i understand. Again, big thanks for the list.

Could we add the vitals of the kids who committed? It might be a bit much for everyone, but at least the kids who have verbals. List looks great so far, thank you.

BC. Just want to say thanks for not only setting up the recruiting pinned threads but also completing all the work. I thought we'd all add to it as they came but understand how this could be a better method. Nonetheless, thank you for putting so much work into it.

Will,
The two are Disciple and Provenzano. If you have a link to their Rivals page please let me know. Also, if I'm missing any locals from any class I would love your input.

LasVegasRebs,
You turned me into this obsessed freak searching hi and low for anyone and everyone who has a UNLV offer. If this costs me my girlfriend... Ha ha. In other words, you're welcome and I hope you enjoy it. It's amazing seeing who we are going up against in the recruiting battles. No more wait and see approach for UNLV Football. Also, if you or anyone else has any info please share so I can add it accordingly. This list is from the info I got on the boards from posters like 777, 1986, Bullmastiff, etc. It's our info, not just mine.

Disciple is ASU commit Bryce Perkins

I wonder if someone can come up with a recruiting needs chart on what we critically need, need, would like, don't need from a recruiting stand point. I know its hard to gauge due to last minute transfers, kids dropping out, etc. but it would be nice to know where we stand.

Call it a ridiculously early recruiting needs mock up but this is my best guess for next season. This is in no particular order really just a quick rundown. Also not sure of all the walk on players that may make the team so that could change some of this.

1) Defensive line. Until we show better results on the field this is going to be a priority every year. This year the staff brought in Alo-Wily Melvin Johnson late signee Chris Richardson and Gabe McCoy (not sure McCoy will remain at DE though, I think he may be moved to OLB.) I think the staff would like to bring in at least 2 defensive tackles and probably 2 defensive ends.

2) QB-We lose Decker. Palandech showed flashes in spring but not convinced he could be a legitimate starter at the D1 level. Thomson stood out last year during fall camp according to Mark Anderson but struggled some this year during the spring. Dalton Sneed will have a year to learn the system and people are really high on him. Guess here they will bring in one juco kid to compete right away and another freshmen.

3) Wide receiver-Brought in two this year. Woods looks like he could be a solid guy, Presley might be special. We lose Criswell and Williams and are pretty thin there. I think you will see them try and bring in 2 to 3 wide receivers in next years class. There could be a Juco guy in there as well. Besides QB skill positions players (WR/RB/TE) usually can get on the field earlier and they may need a guy to step in right away.

4) Offensive line. Brought in three this year two of whom might battle for some playing time this year with Neale and Pulo. Jacobson will red shirt this year I think and might need another year after that but could be solid. We also bring in the two Gorman kids. We will have a couple of returning guys as well. That said, offensive line and defensive line are the two most important spots after QB so expect the staff to bring in at least 1 if not 2 more guys in the next class on top of the two Gorman kids.

5) Running back. We have Thomas, Campbell coming in this year. Altee will be eligible and Whitely will be a senior. Considering the fact I think Sanchez wants to run a very physical run first offense I expect them to bring in at least one more running back to add to the mix. Andrew Peterson could be in there as well as a walk on but he could get moved to the defensive side of the ball. Besides Altee I think at least 1 more running back and maybe an 'athlete' to be brought in. May also look for a 'power back' as well for short yardage situations. I know Will is not particularly high on Campbell so I will go with him on this one and say they will need to add some depth.

6) Linebacker. We have decent depth there and I think we brought in a stud with Loalagi who will probably be used on the outside. My guess is Gabe McCoy could be in the mix there as well. Coach Baer likes to blitz so I think you will see an emphasis on faster LBs. Probably 2-3 guys here as well.

7) Secondary we lose a couple of guys but also brought some interesting prospects in this year. Javin White and Austrie are good looking prospects (especially White) but expect at least 1-2 pure safety types to be brought in. At CB we brought in Myles from Juco ranks and Mouton looks like the real deal. Jericho Flowers is small even by CB standards as he is listed at 155 lbs. Will probably need this year to red shirt and another to add some more weight. Fenstermacher was highly rated and red shirted last year, and he looked pretty solid in the spring game. With the number of spread offenses being played these days you can never have enough CBs. I expect at least 2-3 CBs brought in and possibly another guy that fits in the athlete category.

Taking the max at each of those projections that puts us at around 21-23 recruits. Not sure if we have the full 25 scholarships available next year or not. 21-23 would leave some room for late qualifiers, transfers etc.

That was off the top of my head without looking at the current roster in terms of who we lose for sure.

I'll get with Rebelbuck and try and do a more in depth list later in the year once this years depth chart is set.

I never thought I would see the secondary being so low on the list. They didn't play like a cohesive unit the last few years. McCoy does seem a bit small. He'll have to get faster to play olb, but I think he's better for it. I don't see him getting big enough to be a good de. I think Alo-Wily was a steal for the defense. I could imagine him having reps at full back for near goal packages, he's fast enough to make it.

That list I did was not in any order of importance. Without seeing the guys play this year it would be really hard to determine what we need. It was more a mock recruiting needs list. After the season it will be easier to create something more definitive.

McCoy is tough to judge. His production his senior year is impossible to ignore. You don't accidentally get 18 sacks. You look at the kid and he is absolutely ripped but he is not particularly a big framed kid. Doesn't look like he could put on more a lot more weight.. He has posted a bunch of videos on twitter of him in the weight room and he does some impressive stuff not just for his size but anybody. At 220 he would be small for a defensive end at the college level. His 40 time wasn't particularly great but I don't put a ton of faith in the listed 40 times from high school camps. You look at enough different recruiting sites and you will see varying 40 times for the same kid. That said the time listed was not particularly good especially for an OLB, but his first step is really impressive. He gets off the ball quickly. I don't know that he could be an every down DE in the college game unless he can get up to around 230 lbs. I see him more of a tweener guy moving to LB and then putting his hand in the dirt in obvious passing downs. Alo-Wily will also get moved around a lot on the defensive line. He is really athletic for his size and might be used at both defensive end and defensive tackle. As far as him playing on offense, Coach Sanchez said he was going to see some snaps there so I will take him at his word.

Available this year?
Good question. I think its for next year, unless he was a really late qualifier academically. Torn on whether I would like to see him this year or next. We need the depth/help this year for sure. But I would almost rather see him next year after this years freshmen have had a year to develop.
