As of the report that came out today UNLV football has sold 4,129 season tickets in comparison to 4,038 season tickets for last year. UNLV still has almost a month to sell season tickets before the first home game.

I am curious how well they have done on the mini package sales as well as individual games sales that are just starting to move. Most likely the UCLA game will be a sell out, BSU and SDSU should both do fairly well, and the game against Hawaii should also have a good crowd. I fully expect they will average over 20k per game just based on a sellout or near sellout for UCLA.

The biggest question is how much of a push will be made to sell tickets over the next 3-4 weeks. A win at NIU could do wonders for ticket sales.

Even with all the entertainment options in LV, Rebel football is a great value. If I were still there I'd be all over it, with a pair or more. This is a great opportunity to get in on the ground floor for some good seats for when the real winning starts in a few short years!

Here's the Sun's breakdown.
Disappointed about football not getting stipends but not not surprised the football facility is going to be put off until the future. When they moved the announcement to late December you would figure its not in position to be funded.
The ticket sales is the biggest concern for year one with a new coach with 2.5 million committed. I don't know is there is enough momentum for year 2 or 3 without tangible success or at least being competitive. Hard to say how many people will commit to buying tickets for year two without a strong year one showing.
Looking ahead, I'm hoping they bring in three quarterbacks this class even though it would be a lot to commit to one position. Next season that is the biggest need by far to develop into a competitive team.
Against Michigan and UCLA, it would be smart to concede early if this team can't physically compete. Protect the starters for the heart of the season and keep Decker out of harms way.

This is exactly the reason people are tired of some of your 'observations'. Again you expand upon the negatives or perceived negatives in the article and completely neglect to mention the positives. The article title was 'Small Gains' not 'Small losses'

The absolute most important thing that should be taken from that article is that the athletic department actually made money for the first time in a long time. Not that the football facility was delayed. Nothing in that article even remotely supports your "I don't know if there is enough momentum heading into year 2-3 if there is not tangible success this year" quote. Nothing.

Nothing in that article leads me to believe that the football facility has been scratched or shelved or contingent upon this years success. Nothing more should be read into that except that it is still in the works but is being delayed.

Nothing in that article pointed to the need of some miracle season to save the program.

And while I fully expect us to lose to Michigan, lets not act as if this is a very good Michigan team or they are some type of juggernaut. They were 112th in the nation in passing yards and scoring and were slightly above average running the ball last year ranking 64th. The only thing that team did well last year was play defense. They have questions marks at QB this year. They could possibly be 0-2 heading into the UNLV game. I fully expect them to lose at Utah week 1. They are then home against Oregon State. Oregon State has issues of their own this year losing their QB, but I would not be surprised to see them competitive if not win that game. UNLV is sandwiched between Oregon State and BYU. Again I do not expect a win, but this is not a great Michigan team with or without Jim H.

As for recruiting 3 QBs. UNLV has already secured a 3 star prospect (according to Rivals and one of the other recruiting services) in Jack Smith. Interesting you failed to mention that in your take. You know because that would be a positive and all.

I would also disagree with your take on ticket sales. While the numbers are still dreadfully low, they are higher than they were last year. Let's not forget that last year we were coming off an exciting bowl season and it seemed possible that another bowl bid was possible.

This year, we are coming off a 2-win season, we hired a high school football coach, and EVERYONE seems to "know" that this is a 1-3 win season, at best. Yet we still sold more than last year where a bowl game was a real possibility before the season started.

Certainly ticket sales need to increase, but I'll take the small increase over last year and hope that this town will (slowly but surely) embrace Coach Sanchez, the players, this program, and the culture he is trying to build.

And let's not forget, doesn't Will always say that we need to recruit 20+ Vegas kids a year to fill the stadium? Well, by all accounts Coach Sanchez is putting in more effort than his predecessors to recruit the valley, so tix sales should be just fine, right?

Come on Will.. You make Debbie Downer look like Polly Positive.. Can you say anything positive about UNLV or will you only be happy when they fail & you can come on here & say "See I told you all so".. I have been lurking on here for years now.. (Mainly post on the confidential board).. & I can't remember one nice thing you have said.. You were against the Sanchez hire.. You are trashing our recruits (saying much better players are here in Vegas) you trashed the team after going to a practice.. etc etc.. I have never seen a much more "negative fan" of a team in my life.. It is getting tiring to read your negativity all the time.. Here is a question for you.. Since you are deep into the local football here.. (I am going to see if I can get you to be positive) Read an article about 6-7 preferred local walk ons from here in Vegas.. Including in it was the QB from Green Valley.. Kid passed for over 6,000 yards.. Rushed for bunch as well.. Does he have a chance here? Or about the other walk on's? Do they have a chance to contribute in any way shape or form?

Considering the tickets sales where through the end of this last weekend, we really do not know how good tickets sales will be until the day of the first home game. If I remember right last season they had only sold about 3,500 tickets with less than a month to go before the first home game. In the same way as last season, I do expect they will continue to sell season tickets, and could see them getting closer to 5,000 before the first game. I also expect healthy individual and mini package sales which will likely push the overall sales way past last season.

The UCLA and Hawaii games alone will be worth about 20-30k of visiting fans. Now it is up to Sanchez to steal a couple of wins and energize the local fans base to continue to buy tickets as the season moves forward.

POSITIVE ONLY! Unless you are speaking about the Community College of Northern Nevada.

Great to see a new season ticket holder. The more new season ticket holders (even single ticket holders) the quicker UNLV football will become something we can all be proud of on and of the field. If anyone didn't notice, they put out a list of school where student athletes from the football teams had been arrested over the last 5 years. The Community College of Northern Nevada had 7 players arrested. UNLV was not even on the list with less than 5 players. I don't even remember a single player being arrested. It will make it that much sweeter when we beat CCNN Reno.

Maybe they can use some of that new ticket money to give the players their stipends, since they haven't received anything since June and were told it will be sometime in September before they receive any money. It is hard for some of these kids to eat and pay their rent without it. Before they at least got a stipend for the month of August. Guess I will keep withdrawing money from my savings until then.

I'm torn on how I feel about the sales of the season tickets. As a die hard, bleeding scarlet Rebel fan, I'm disappointed that more haven't been sold. As a realist considering the state of the fan base, I understand while Las Vegans are apathetic to the program.

I was just hoping that the program could have capitalized on Tony's story. Maybe that's what contributed to the smaller bump (Tony being from a HS school). I doubt it though. While UNLV Marketing is slightly better they need to increase the marketing budget 10 fold or it use it more efficiently. I think it's happening but we won't really see it until the season starts.

While we won't hit the 2.5K - 5K bump I was hoping for, season tickets will probably gain 500-1000 more tickets than last year. I'm OK with that, but it could be a slog after what is likely to be a challenging year (win-wise).

The number we have is pathetic, especially since you can get 2 seats for $200.

I know we cant compare to big time schools but we can compare to MWC schools how do we do compared to the MWC, aside from Boise are we right in line or are we way low?

It may be a lot better then we think because it does appear individual and mini package tickets are selling at a good pace. I will note that many of the tickets are being bought for the UCLA game and a lot of those most likely by UCLA fans, but I expect the average attendance will get a large bump this season. I expect at least 5,000 a game increase. A sellout for UCLA will do most of the damage.
