I don't have a problem with us losing, I do with the way we did it. Defensively we played mostly well, however, that is qualified by our lazy ass, half hearted offensive rebounding effort. Not just the blocking out, but half dozen times 2 or 3 UNLV players would stand and wait for the ball to come to them while one WSU player actually went and got it.
We also showed some stupidity in our game play. Some horrible contested 3's just jacked up there. We get a big steal toward the end of the game and immediately we put up a shot about 3 feet behind the 3 point line. We go inside and make it a closer game only to go back to dumb contested 3's.
I don't know who to hang this on. Unless our game plan was to stand around and pass the ball on the perimeter and then penetrate with about 5 seconds left on the shot clock or put up a bad shot or to over dribble and be incredibly careless with the basketball, I would say the players. However, it's not like I saw Rice animatedly yelling at them for doing just that.
Hopefully an aberration, but this was more than McCaw having an off night. Usually I can live with CDR's quiet style, this is one of the nights it really got on my nerves. There weren't a ton of bad calls, but there were two big ones and he just stands there and smiles instead of working the refs like every other coach. Also, guys playing lazy, putting up bad shots and he isn't in their face.
We've all seen this team's potential so I will chalk this up to a really bad night. Thought we might lose, but didn't expect it to look this ugly. About the only positive takeaways were defense and that we didn't quit when we had the chance.
