Was accused of verbal abuse by his players. Resigned after 2 seasons. Will be interesting to see where they go from here.

I don't know the particulars of what happened. What he did or didn't say.

If he was abusive..Good riddance.

It is odd you don't see this sort of thing much when teams are winning consistently.

This is pretty late in the recruiting process and makes things really tough for UH heading into next season..

No, I'm not saying today's athletes are soft.

Just that you don't see (that I remember) a team coming off a 10-2 -3 type bowl season have these type issues..

He is a POS. He left Rice after a year a few days after signing an extension, he left Pitt after a year, his own son who played for him at UH was in the portal this year.

Yeah he's had an odd career arc...

He also has an affinity for wristbands and headsets that look like what Madonna would use for her Blonde Ambition Tour...

They really need to get someone who's invested in the Islands and/or UH. To that end, they've invited Timmy Chang to apply. He's WR coach at CSU. Don't know that he's ready to be HC, as that seems like it would be a big jump, but getting back in the program would be helpful for the 'Bow Warriors.

Depending on who the head man it, a guy like Chang could be a hero going home and being an OC under a coach. And set himself up nicely take over if they do well.

Apparently June Jones is interested. Always thought he was a great coach. Especially at school like Hawaii. Question would be at 68, how much does he have left.
Nick Saban is 70, if I’m Hawaii and they decide not to go all in on Chang right now, I’d bring in Jones and try to get Chang as the future so make him OC/associate Head Coach and pay him well.

I never thought he was a great coach. (Not saying that to argue with you or say your wrong in your assessmen). Always thought he was a good one. I think he's the type that can stabilize a program and occasionally have a nice run (like with Hawaii).

Age might be becoming an issue..

June Jones declined the HC position so whoever came up with that scenario first on this board… haha
I stated that Jones was interested, but was just something that I read on football scoop and ESPN. Wasn’t my own speculation or inside information.

Not a chance. They are not going to change the coach at UNLV for at least another year even if he falls flat on his face which I don't think is going to happen based on the recent transfer recruits!

I was joking based on me piggybacking someone else’s idea on here. The way my post sounded in my head is different than how it was perceived which is why I will never claim to have been an English major.

I apologize.

Hawaii hot mess right now, they play on campus, since Aloha Stadium is basically junk yard, I believe campus stadium is 8K, I hope they get guy who cares about the program and get a stadium, Hawaii is always great place to visit and add football, it's great.

Big jump for a WR coach in the MWC. I understand why they offered. I understand why he accepted. Just can’t help but think that the deck is stacked against this move at this time. Hawaii would be better served if Chang had more coordinator experience (especially at the FBS level) and Chang would have been better off if the stadium was complete. Certainly not going to complain about UH being an easier opponent for UNLV though.

Agreed. He will certainly be embraced, but I can't help but feel like he will never get a fair shot. I have a hard time imagining he will succeed, even if he got back every play that went into the portal. Hope he does well enough to win some games, but UNLV beats him every year foreve.

He won’t. And he will probably ultimately fail. But from his standpoint, you grab it with both hands. It’s great pay for x amount of years, it’s your alma, and even though it might be a long shot, it is an opportunity. One he may not get otherwise. And you do the best you can with it. Just save some of that money, it’s probably going to be the huge monetary spike in your career.
