Thon Maker

Gawd, that would be amazing. Like he just says, "Coaching changes, smoaching changes. Screw it; UNLV all the way, that 1990 team was the best ever. Let me just pad my stats in the mountain west, dominate schools like reno and be a lottery pick." Lol,

Really hope we make a super sick hire and get things back on track.

If we can't make a big splash, then Augmon should receive a chance. We've had discussions about this for some time and people have made great points on both sides of the fence, but resume experience and coaching theory aside, for me, it has more to do with the political chess move of not wanting to alienate a group of people that basically represent "in a nutshell" our entire identity and legacy. Including our lone national championship. I would not want to send that message to the members of our greatest team - ever. How do you think Augmon would feel if he was just blatantly passed over? He would be like, "Wtf lol? I played my butt off for UNLV and I love being a Rebel more than anything and this is how I get treated?" That would be an awful move. I really hope that does not happen.

I don't even know anymore, lol. Things are just crazy. We capitulate to our opponents no matter what. I do not think it's X's and O's. Does AAU basketball do more damage than help in terms of the development of younger players? Why do all of these players nowadays hate contact? Charles Barkley was 6'4, taking on dudes that were 6'10, 6'11. Now you have guys like Channing Frye, who is 6'11. That guy despises contact and just shoots 3's. It's like dude you could be a beast both inside and out. Stop being scared, work out, get tougher, lol. Now Barkley was obviously an outlier, however, it does ask the question: Is this generation just more pussified, in general? I don't know. It's almost something you can't quite put your finger on. And it's very annoying, lol. Because all of this stuff is affecting basketball as a whole. Even the teams with the most AAU stars, McDonalds All-Americans, etc, look terrible. Think back to even a team like UMD Terps or KU Jayhawks from 2002. Juan Dixon, Steve Blake, Lonny Baxter, Chris Wilcox on Maryland. Kirk Hinrich, Nick Collison, Drew Gooden on Kansas. Those teams would have massacred any team in the 2016 March Madness tournament. That Maryland Terps team in 2002 is actually the first, and only team to win a NCAA championship without one McDonalds All-American. As someone from Maryland, I am very proud of that achievement by Gary Williams and that team.

Frankly, I think most of us on this board understand that it is not 1990 anymore. Most of us are realistic.
Regarding the state of UNLV basketball:

I think all of us just want... some...

Stability....

Watching Wichita St last night dismantle a very stacked roster in Arizona, I'm starting to think we might be better off steering away from top 25 recruits and focus more on kids that will stick around for a few years.
We should recruit one and done players. However, we need one and done players who will be difference makers. A lot of one and dones leave based upon potential.

Good in theory, but those are the ones that typically get snatched up by Duke, Kentucky, and North Carolina (and LSU this year)

Rick Pitino strongly disagrees with the need for classes full of 'one and done' players. Said it recently in an interview. Calipari struck gold one year, and then found himself in the NIT the very next year. Returned to title game with a more experienced team the following year. Duke typically has a solid base of 2-3-4 year guys to go with their 'one and done' guys.

I read somewhere that Thon would like to play with poyser and Jackson. I wonder if we still have that Canadian pipeline

Thats why we have him in house in the first place. I think they are/were AAU teammates and all played on those Canadian teams...
