I moved down to the 3’rd row near the end of the game just to get a feel for what was going on with the players After KO threw the TD to Grimes KO & Armani were standing together and Grimes comes over to them and says the following loud enough for me and my buddy to hear

“that was the prettiest pass I have ever seen, ever seen, All I could see were the laces, it was the prettiest pass I have ever seen, ever seen.”

Wish I would’ve got that recorded, the look on Armani’s face was priceless.

Start Armani against NW, prepare KO during bye week.

I can get behind this...

I like Oblad.

I really do.

But some folks are basing their opinions on a couple throws in garbage time during a blowout win and a blowout loss.

Is Armani the answer? Probably not. I'm just not sure based on our roster construction that it will be any better with Oblad.

A bigger question would be why was Armani not able to do anything during garbage time prior to his going out of the game?

Because he isn't a particularly accurate QB which we all know.

Better question is why is Sanchez trying to pound a square peg into a round hole.

The strength of the team is running the ball.

Sanchez decided for whatever reason to make this the Armani Rogers feel good game.

By all means start Oblad.

I don't think the results will change.

It will look like when Gilliam played last year.

I've watched him for two Spring camps now. He has good arm talent. And he has some limitations.

I'm not sure lumping Oblad with Gilliam at this point is fair. I don't think it's fair to assume that results will be exactly the same. Sometime things emerge and develop in games that weren't so obvious in Spring ball, especially when you're mostly taking snaps with 2s and 3s. Let's see if he's a gamer! I'm already more intrigued with Oblad based on what I've seen in limited action than I've been with Gilliam.

The strength of our team is the run game? I know that's the tilt of our construct, but outside of CW, the run game is poor. We need to be looking for an offensive strength. An effective passing game will help most the only aspect of our run game that's any good (CW).

The run game is poor? It was top 50 last year and its damn near the same entire OL returning.

Last season when Gilliam came in it negatively impacted the run game. Because the QB threat was gone.

I'm not lumping Oblad in with Gilliam but his skill set is closer to Gilliam than it is Rogers.

The offense would look similar to what we saw last year with Gilliam in terms of play calling.

I've been to nearly every Spring practice the last two years.

I'm not saying Oblad doesn't have talent. But there are some limitations and people should maybe temper expectations a bit..

Oblad could and at some point probably should get a look.

Basically, Rogers a talented option based quarterback that lacks the accuracy to move the chains on passing downs. He is a perfect complimentary runner but needs a strong primary back to create lanes to get him into space. As a passer, he is a low percentage passer allowing teams to focus on stopping the run.

Oblad is passer that can spread the field as a passer but won't go the distance as a runner. He will consistently move the chains and forces teams to play the pass honestly allowing the skill players the opportunity to make plays.

During Sanchez time with UNLV, the team has looked best when led by passer but has had more long range scores with Rogers.

True.

I'm not sure it matters who starts though.

Sanchez said. “We can’t just rely on handing the ball off over and over and over. The thing that really frustrates me is the accuracy…Too many balls below the guys’ knees, in the dirt. It seems like we’re always going down for them.”

Except, of course, for the ones that were thrown over the receivers heads.

He made this bed.

He held QB competitions that were already decided.

This is such a nonsense response from him.

He's frustrated by something he already knew to be true.

The accuracy issues didn't just pop up.

They've been there.

It wouldnt shock me to see CTS announce some sort of mysterious injury with Armani and Oblad named the interim starter vs Northwestern.

Everybody has completely ignored or not understood the original post in this thread. Our prize wide receiver was taunting Armani to his face. The QB fracture isn’t just with the fans in the stands, it’s also with the players on the field. “Prettiest pass I’ve ever seen, ever seen”.

After last week CTS tried to give the receivers some love by saying what a good job they were doing with their blocking. Sorry CTS, that’s not why they are playing college football.

It’s even more than that. The last two seasons, I’ve notice the defense “get tired” after sustained offensive ineptitude. They aren’t tired. They have no confidence in him and they just don’t go as hard. I think the defense has a preference, too. Of course it won’t be said publicly, that shit is sanitized. But if one or two of all the starters lack confidence in the QB, of course it’s a team issue.

Nah

Defense has surrendered tons of points and yards even when the offense has moved the ball..

They just haven't been that good.

You aren't 115th in total defense because you lack confidence or you're tired.

You're there because either you aren't that good, your scheme is lacking or both.

Sure being on the field to much compounds those issues.

But doesn't get you in the 100s in total defense.

I’m not even saying it’s a conscious thing. I think a lack of confidence just slowly erodes your will. It sucks but it’s human nature.

If you bust your ass more than anybody at work, and everyone else goes 3/4 speed, I think you fall back instead of everyone else popping up. Human nature.

Not saying they are great, but if the offense is making plays, scoring some points, giving them a chance, more than just the time for freshness, they’re going to be more dialed in. I think that’s gone pretty quickly when the offense is a 3 and out machine.

Ah got ya...

Misinterpreted.

Agree.

If you took a blind team vote - if you had to guess - what do you think the percentages would be?
Secret ballot would bring 70-80% Oblad and if you had to raise your hand to vote it would go down at least 20%.

Receivers would be like 110% KO.

Naturally you play your more experienced player hoping he shows signs of improvement and maturation, however Armani has showed ZERO signs of improvement in two games this year. If anything, his throwing (passes) is actually worse. People forget Oblad pretty much looked like shit too against SUU. So I don't think Oblad is going to turn this team around. We are soooo bad in soooo many areas it isn't even funny. I don't know if I'd start Oblad against Nwestern, but I sure as hell would have a shorter leash and wouldn't want to wait until the game was out of question to try something different.

Bad teammates mix it up on twitter and social media. That's in house stuff. Not saying that isn't how Chuck feels... he may very well.... I'd hate to see things like that hit social media.

Dudes read the trash on twitter.

It was just Chuck saying he had Armani's back.

So many things to be disappointed about. Personally I am disappointed with the O line.

This is a big veteran group that should be the strength of this team.

No quite creating that many running lanes and our QBs often have little time to throw.

It's not the reason Armani has been off, but it has hurt us offensively.

It seems like the line play has dropped off significantly when Garrison left.

Line has been awful. They aren't giving him time. He's going to still miss wide right or short left if he has plenty of time. And the blitzes haven't been picked up well, either. But they can blitz everyone since you only need four in coverage because he can't hit a bull in the ass with a bowl of beans.

Sorry, per CTS Monday afternoon presser Armani looked sharp in practice and will be starting Saturday. Well that was certainly a short lived competition. Nice try though Oblad.

The following isn't defending the decision but this is what Sanchez' facing.

NW defense is solid.

Pretty good vs the run. Good enough that if Oblad starts NW is probably able to play straight up. They don't need to commit an extra guy to the box or spy the QB.

Stanford is a big physical team who can run the ball. NW held them to just over 100 yards.

Not sure the Rebs could run the ball straight up vs this D without the threat of Armani running.

So the game rests squarely on a RS freshman to basically win with his arm...

Tough call for a coach who's career is in the balance.

Let's say Rebs lose. Even if Armani struggles it's still a tough call the following week. Do you try and get Armani 'right' vs Wyoming a more like opponent in terms of talent? If the Rebs lose to Northwestern the Wyoming game is an absolute must win. It likely determines Sanchez' future at UNLV. You lose to Wyoming you are sitting at 1-3 and staring at a 4 game stretch of Boise, Vandy, Fresno and SDSU. Fat lady ain't singing but she's warming up.

Say Oblad started against NW and stunk up the joint. Makes it a little tough to go back to Armani...Now what do you do?

Sanchez went all in on Armani.

He painted himself in a corner..

I think he's going to sink or swim with his guy.

He is gonna ride Armani to a contact extension or right out of town. But either way that is his guy. But above I was just making fun of Sanchez’s lip service Saturday after the game and Sunday on the Reb Zone to a competition at QB & other positions and his concern regarding our passing woes and the need to get that fixed.
