How do guys like Cronin, Menzies and Beard get an interview for the job when they really haven't done anything impressive in their careers but a guy like Lavin can't even get a damn interview? What happened to them saying we need an experienced coach with a proven track record when this search began? Menzies or Beard have zero chance of turning this around.....what a joke

I don't know what thought process you used to get to that conclusion but you should try another one. There are no sure things in this business. Look at a guy like Massamino who wins a championship before coming here. However, Chris Beard stepped into a very difficult situation at Little Rock and turned it into nothing short of a miraculous year. So to say that he cant possibly get it done is ridiculous. H

Who else has contacted Lavin? Lot of other job openings besides ours and the only school showing real interest is University of San Francisco.

A quote from former player Baron Davis.

'We are the only team to make the sweet 16 without a coach'.

When he left UCLA nobody was sad about it.

Went close to 10 years between jobs.

Brushes with NCAA.

Rumors of player misconduct swept under the rug.

Considered more a recruiter than an Xs and Os guy. We saw that movie already.

Teams were considered to underachieve despite talent.

For whatever reason when his name pops up the typical reaction is meh....

Chris Beaed stepped into a situation where the team he inherited returned a bunch of upperclassmen and was voted fourth in the Sun Belt preseason poll. Then he won the league.

Miraculous is hyperbole to the max man. He had a great first year with somebody else's players.

Lavin would be my last choice of this group! Don't understand where you Lavin fans were during those tragic Bruin years. He single-handedly turned UCLA from a Championship team to an also-ran. Lavin is UCLA's Rollie Massimino! No thanks! Might as well give Beard a chance!

Lol. Winning his league is perhaps the least impressive accomplishment of the season, and it's still impressive.

Yea. Show me someone, anyone who's ever done that at another low major school like this? In a single season? He won at SDSU, at Tulsa both tourney teams. And he beat a top 15 team in the tourney. You should just stop talking because you don't have the slightest idea what you're talking about

There are probably hundreds of examples of people taking a team rated 4th in a low level league preseason poll and guiding them to a league title. It's a great year. Call it "miraculous" if you want hyperbole man.

I hope we don't hire your boy with his one year of miraculous D1 coaching experience and zero experience sustaining success through recruiting at any level. I think we should have been able to do better and it's hard for me to get excited about such a weak a$$ resume.

Have a good evening.

Name 1. If there are so many?

You find it that hard to believe that other teams have been rated preseason #4 in their league and finished first?

I'm seriously about done with you. You think this guy is a much better candidate than I do and that's not likely to change. Especially if you've only got one D1 season and no recruiting resume to reference.

Lol. You can't do it. And it's not being predicted forth and coming first. You're just ignoring all of his accomplishments because you know sounds ridiculous to state that first year head coaches come into bottom feeding Div 1 schools who have a losing record and beat 3 NCAA tourney teams on neutral or away courts "all the time"

30 wins is a huge number for ANY coach to get....but for a first year coach at a program that was abysmal the year before, I agree it was damn near miraculous.

Except you are wrong. He did return a few upperclassmen, but he brought in 10 new recruits of his own in April (Jucos, D1 transfers, etc).

Only 2 players from the 2014-2015 team found in the Top 7 at MPG can be found in this years Top 8 players at MPG. I'd say that looks more like he recruited a good team, coached them up and turned around the program in his first year on the job.

Here is a recent article that talks about Beard. You'll have to examine his rosters on ESPN for the statistical info.

Now you're just being annoying.

I said it wasn't uncommon for a team to go from preseason 4th to 1st. That's it and you know it, you can STFU with the rest.

And I'm not ignoring his 1 year of "miraculous" accomplishments in the Sun Belf, I'm just not as impressed by it as you are.

It's a year, not a resume. And while I hope he can, his resume doesnt at all convince me he's equipped to succeed here.

Feel free to disagree. I know you do, and frankly don't care. If we hire him I'll hope beyond hope he succeeds.

Thanks for the update. If you'll read on in the thread I discovered my honest mistake and offered the correction.

The point was that the team he inherited wasn't garbage. They were preseason #4 in the league. They were expected to be much improved.

You were actually referring to one of my comments. I was speaking of his entire season, so yea. And that info you gave about the roster turnover debunks everything you said previously. He took 10 new guys and brought

Except that it doesn't, and he still relied heavily on 7 returning players, but you probably didn't even read the article so what's the point....

I'm glad you're happy we're landing this miraculous coach. I wish you were a little less dense, but I'm glad youre happy.

I hope it works out for all of us.

Well I certainly hope so too

Tulane has the capability to get a coach like Mike Dunleavy and the best we can do is Menzies or Beard????? Wtf
I guess our esteemed AD ignored all (supposedly interested according to media reports) NBA candidates including Scotty Brooks, Lionel Hollins and Mike Brown.

Come on Mjs, why are they gonna work with experienced NBA guys who have coached legends like Durant and Kobe whom every college kid emulates, when they can talk turkey at Circus Circus buffet with WAC superstars like Menzies?

Beard had no regular season wins versus an NCAA tournament quality opponent.
Best wins were versus SDSU 49-43 in the early season, Tulsa and he beat 9 win Depaul.

Took a 13 win team to 30 wins and a tourney bid.

Beat SDSU on the road.

Not an extensive resume. Done some good things in a short amount of time.

I guess we all underestimate the power of the booster club because it seems they didn't want Lavin and except for one the rest didn't want Mike Brown. And now it seems they are the ones giving their stamp of approval. The Cabal of UNLV

When you have money issues like UNLV, not much you can do about it. Boosters play a role at every school, it would be nice though, if UNLV could get to the point where if boosters start making noise UNLV could tell a few to get bent.
