I think two things are happening to the team as we see it.
1st. The defense on the ball and perimeter is way better than earlier in the season. Could it be that the players know there is no back up rim protection? I think so.
2nd. They are much looser. I think this has to do with the fact we are down to so few players. Every player knows they'll get their minutes so they can let it all out and not worry about the hook. Also when it's "you against the world" it's much easier to become a cohesive group. A much more "don't worry, be happy" attitude.
