It has been pointed out the problems with past administrations at UNLV as it relates to the sports programs and lack of support. It actually goes much deeper than that and I feel it can be argued that past UNLV administrations were selected and placed in their position by a Board of Regents dominated by northern members who placed UNR's interest ahead of UNLV and members from the south with no ties to UNLV and who put their own personal interests ahead of UNLV. As a result, it appears to me that they purposefully placed road blocks and obstacles in front of UNLV to stunt its growth in both academics and sports.

For example, there was always a push for the north to make sure UNLV and UNR were in the same athletic conference or if UNLV gets a law school, UNR has to get a medical school. Another example would be the attempt to hire Pitino. Whether you like Wynn or not, he was doing a pretty good job of recruiting Rick until a couple of Regents threatened that they wouldn't approve the contract until Carol Harter was involved and the rest is history! Additionally, I always wonder the role northern Regents played in the vendetta against Tark!

I keep hearing the claims of poverty, but feel if the state education budget is tight, it not because of Clark County! It because the rest of the state! That's why I keep coming back to the importance of the change in the Board of Regents and how today UNLV grads are taking the lead and I do feel they would try to come up with more money and increase the base salary of $300k for the right coach. Although I don't remember it being discussed, a recent Editorial from the RJ on the vote for 42 acre purchase by the BOR is insightful on the undue influence of the north on UNLV and is a good read: http://www.reviewjournal.com/opinio...ouldnt-reject-land-possible-unlv-stadium-deal
