If he has retained his skill level, he could be a big part of turning UNLV into a winner. I laugh about how people think that because he wasn't the starter at a program like Ohio State that makes him a failure, when in truth he could most likely start for the majority of college programs.

I have no expectation either way. I would say its a major indictment of Brumfield and Rogers if Martell starts. They had 18 months to being grasping concepts and consistency with the couple of WRs who have returned. Obviously enough pieces have changed that thats nearly moot.

But to have a guy show up and within a month and a half go from no significant appearances in a very long time to D1 starter even at a school like UNLV... eesh. I'd be quite disappointed in the other QBs on the roster.

Who is saying he was a failure because he couldn't beat out Haskins, Barrett, Fields or Burrough?

I think the concern is the transfers and the de-commit.

He also didn't win the job at Miami. Again no shame there.

But some may perceive the bouncing around as an unwillingness to face a challenge. Fair or not.

Say it again. He could be announced the starter and be a difference maker and help UNLV win games..Totally possible. I hope he contributes.


It also wouldn't be shocking if Rogers or Brumfield win the job and he isn't on the roster midway through the season. He didn't come here to hold a clipboard. I think he expects or thinks he can win the job.

I don't think there is any question he has talent. You don't get recruited to Ohio State if you can't play.

But I prefer a wait and see approach before anointing guys the savior of the program..

I agree that this a Hail Mary but makes complete sense for a program like UNLV. It is the of the coaches to make the insertion of Martell into the practices as non disruptive as possible. They can’t show Tate any favoritism that disrespects Brumfeld and Rogers. A lot is also on Tate to show he is here to help the team and not just to resurrect his stalled career.

Let's hope Arroyo doesn't tie his career to a QB that isn't that good rather than someone who would be better suited to start ala Sanchez & Amari
