Stumbled across this on YouTube. Videos a bit long has some commercials. Anyway guy is a West Virginia fan that talks a lot of college football. He dedicated an entire 20ish minute video about Big12 potentially adding UNLV.

He mentioned two quotes from sports writers that prompted him to do the video.

He's pretty level headed did a prospect and cons but seems to think UNLV to Big12 might have some legs.

One quote in particular (I think around 6 minute mark?) from Big12 commissioner was pretty interesting. Paraphrasing commissioner said Big 12 does. 'Wants BIG12 to have more events in big media markets like Las Vegas where Big12 doesn't have a presence 'yet'.
At 4 minute mark he discusses Texas Tech writer saying UNLV was under considerations for BIG12 a year ago.

He's pretty informed on how the PAC/MWC stuff went down and the agreement UNLV signed with MWC.

Anyway decent listen.

If this Project Rudy thing has any legs, I don’t think we’ll see another G5 school make the jump to P4.

I sure hope there is some legs. In fact, I was/almost convinced that there is at least some talk with the Big 12 right now. If there wasn't, I don't think Harper makes the decision that he did.

It doesn't mean that it will happen, but I would like to think we wouldn't have made this risky decision without any sort of ongoing conversation with the Big 12 that seemed to leave the door open at least a little.

IF we have plans to go to the Big12, I'd think that we'd wait until we receive the big paychecks from the Pac first.
But... I also get jumping at that opportunity while we are still "hot" since it would only build more momentum.

It doesn’t seem that it would happen til closer to their next media deal, which ends in 2031. Who knows though? Things change quick.

Historically I would say you clearly underrated the gross incompetence of UNLV. Jump out of a plane and figure out the parachute situation on the way down? Sure no problem! But I do think this staff is different 🤞

Well UNLV is not set to get much in terms of direct checks from the PAC 12. The only one worth note is the 24.5% of the poaching fees that could be as high as 13.475 mil dollars. That is if the entire amount is paid and the lawsuit is thrown out. After that it is just an extra million and half a year. So not worth waiting for that. That first, and only big check is supposed to happen in 2025. But with the lawsuit, will it?

Either way, we jump at the first invitation.

This is exactly why we need to get the BOR to allow us to make a move like this without having to consider holding hands with unr. They always seem to **** things up for us.

That’s when I think things would happen if they were to happen.

It’s the highest on my wish list and I’ll continue to hold out hope and even though I have little confidence in UNLV wheeling and dealing properly, I think the within B12 conference barriers would be too great. Though we’d have allies for the move to the B12, I think the power balance would stop it. I can’t see why it’d change.

We are despised by some, in the same way we were despised by some in the old P12 that would have prevented any movement.

I sure hope not.
Other conference have added teams in the middle of their current deals. They can amend contracts for such things.

If we have to wait to the end of our next contract, what is the point of the P4 free pass?

Start the ball rolling by winning at Oregon State and then at home against Boise State. Currently there are around 33K+ seats sold to fans or reserved for students for the game which could easily end up closer to 40K with a win against Oregon State. The bigger the crowd, the bigger the impact on a national level.

This is why I think Gloria 'might' attempt to bolster conference to at least 12.

She can't sit at 8 or 9 if she knows UNLV is out in a couple years.

Maybe just 1 more, but I really don't think she can afford to add anyone else.

Everyone else will lower the per team payouts with the next contract. She is already promising MW teams that they won't take a paycut with media revenue. Which I think is 100% false. Which means that she may already have to pad payouts with fee revenue. The problem is that she may not have any left over after the promised extra revenue that she has already given to the legacy schools. ALso did Hawaii get more with their addition? Who knows.

Point being. Her mouth has been bigger than her wallet. They do have a 50 million dollar cushion. But I think that the exit fees get reduced by 35 mil if not more. The standard seems to be remaining contract value per team at the time of announcing departure. It has actually has been less than that it most cases. 11 mil per team in exit fees would be that.

Then there is the poaching fee lawsuit. It may be thrown out, but how long does it get hung up in court? What if it doesn't get thrown out and is reduced or deemed illegal? What then?

A lot of ifs and buts..

I guess the question is what do NIU/TOLEDO add to any potential media deal?

Does a Texas State add to it?

Does having multiple time zones increase the value of a media contract?

I don't know.

One thing about BIG12 commissioner statement about not having a footprint in Las Vegas 'yet' he might have been referring to possibly playing conference title games at Allegiant?
That is what I was thinking as well. But, I like the video guy saying they can have Vegas for as little as $10 million which isn't going to dilute their income significantly. Our membership gives that automatic entry to Las Vegas, gets them year round in the Pacific Time zone for their media package and the smart marketing by Yormark will be worth more than $10 million dollars. Add that it gives them access to the 13th fastest growing market, per youtube guy. For $10 million, which we would gladly accept, they will profit from that investment.

Texas State does not, not right now at least. They have one of the worst TV numbers in the country in terms of average viewership.

Maybe Liberty will? Not sure. But I really don't think there are many other realistic possibilities that will increase our value probably not many that will even be worth the mean of the new MW

Curious, would you have taken Utep or Texas State?

I think UTEP is better right now.

Much bigger immediate market, and I think they have a better hold of their market. Most Texas state students and fans are UT fans first. They have been getting decent attendance numbers for their home games since they have been pretty good, but their TV numbers have been horrible. They average like 10k total views for their games.

Now that number is likely horribly skewed. They have most of their games on some streaming channel and they don't count, but either way many other in their own conference are dealing with the same thing and they have much better numbers.

Texas State has potential. They are also the better football team right now.

UTEP has been awful for a while, but I also think they have potential possibly even more. More actual viewers right now as well.

Hate to drag out the 2023 TV viewership numbers again.

Scroll down to #128......

Texas State have been around since 1899. Athletically or academically what have they accomplished? UTEP have won National Championship with Coach Haskin in basketball.

Texas State is a large University (7th in Texas) and growing They are investing in their programs.

Their national championship is a more distant memory than ours.

What have you done for me lately.

Glad to have UTEP. I think there is potential there but they've been bad for a long time.

I think UTEP's last stretch of semi-success came under Mike Price.......yep, former WSU FB coach. We are everywhere. There is no escape. :)

I went to help out at another clinic. One of the PTs there had two pictures of her daughter. One was her in her Texas State cap and gown, the other was her in full UT gear at a Longhorn home game.

Is is not the exception, this is the rule.

UT will automatically grant admission if you are the top 5, maybe 3% of your class. If you are not, it is very very difficult to get in. Texas State is much easier. A large amount of students attend Texas State just to be close enough to UT.

Many others turn heel and go to TAMU. Which is probably why A&M fans hate Texas more than the converse. Many of them are salty from getting rejected, lol.

Which is also kind of funny, since A&M is an excellent school. Rated #1 in the state by some.
