Had a conflict and couldn’t make it out there today. How did the team look? How was the turnout? Any info is appreciated.

That's surprising to hear. It's been the opposite for much of Spring camp.
I didn’t see you out there but was kind of expecting you and your brother out there. Michael M slept in and didn’t make it either.

I thought the D had the best of it for most of the scrimmage. The first series was #1 O against what appeared to be half & half 1’st and 2’nd team D. Armani took them down the field and scored rather easily. The scary part is that they had him running the ball more than I would hope if he is to stay healthy for the entire season. He made some nice passes along the way as well.

After that it was primarily Gilliam and Oblad at QB. Gilliam got to go out with the better of the units and moved the bal a couple of times but was mostly kept out of the end zone and was intercepted once or twice. Oblad never reached the end zone but had some nice passes and wasn’t intercepted. That could be a big difference in who gets the nod as the #2 in the fall.

Biggest takeaway for me was how little the 1’s played and how good that Chad looked at RB. He added a whole new dimension for our offense with his pass catching ability out of the backfield. It looks like they are setting that up as a relief valve for Armani in case his primary read breaks down. He was also a tough short yardage runner, hard to bring down and was fighting for every yard. I think he is ahead of Tariq whom I know Bull & I both like a lot.

Out of town.

Thx for the info...Appreciated.

....

Nearly all of his runs were audibles by Armani or where he selected to run in RPO and basic options due to how the defense reacted. Just saying because many more passing plays were called for him that didn't happen. Good thing is that Armani has improved in checking out of plays and making the right decisions. He graded out extremely well in that regard for that game and for the entire spring. It's extremely important for the offensive production. This "COULD" be a huge year for him if he continues to improve and the OL steps up.

Based on what you were told.

Nobody who attended Spring practices came away feeling like Armani had made any big strides.

He looked exactly the same as he did last year.

One good series.
One bad series.
One great pass.
One at the feet of a wide open guy.

Throw a dart on a 20 yard out.
Throw right into a LBs belly the next play.

The guy has all the physical gifts in the world. But until routine and 'easy' pass plays become routine and easy he'll remain what he is right now. A great athlete playing QB not a QB who happens to be a great athlete.

Pete was there for nearly every Spring practice by the way.

If there is improvement, I haven’t seen it either. The spring left me with three impressions.
1. Vic is a vocal leader on the defense
2. We can expect more of the same with Rogers: the good and especially the bad.
3. Tejchman doesn’t look out of place as a safety.

If there is improvement, I haven’t seen it either.... .
Sorry that I wasn't clear but the improvement I was referring to was in regards to Armani's audibles. Without knowing what plays were called by Cotton but changed pre-snap by Armani, it would be basically impossible for even the most knowledgeable fan to recognize.

Looks like he didn't get any help in the off season with his passing?
