In an article on the official website about our "historic" signing class, they added, "With more additions expected during the traditional signing period in February, UNLV's already class ranks second in the MW and 69th in the nation according to 247Sports." So, where are they? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Haven't seen or heard a peep about the February class. Lord knows our roster has taken more hits since the early signing period.

If you read the Twitter Tea leaves (who coaches are following in terms of players, I think they are going to go after a number of guys in the portal.
Man, the two major sports are going to change so much. Not the game itself, but the preparation for the season. Recruiting is frequently called the lifeblood of the program. Recruiting is insanely different now than 5, 10 years ago.

It changes things so much. Especially those non P-5 schools, those that can effectively navigate the portal are going to have success on the field. And it’s an unknown for every staff because it will be intensely competitive. We added a major new factor to the equation.

I have seen arguments that the portal helps G5 schools more and that it benefits P5 schools more.

Oddly both seemed to have merit.

Which means its probably case specific and ultimately a wash.

Seems that players are discovering that sitting the bench at one level isn't as desirable as playing at a lower level. Witness KO. But some players are realistic about their futures and getting a sheepskin from a more respected institution of higher learning is their ultimate goal, so they're willing to just be good a teammate, do what they can for the common good, and not worry about minutes.
