Saturday. We lost to Cal.In the past the Rebels have played 2 exhibition games or 1 exhibition and a closed scrimmage. There is only one exhibition game on the schedule. Has there been or will there be a closed scrimmage this year?
Not too much really. I didn’t have a ton of info on it anyway. Just some generalities. We are big, we can rebound the ball, we turned it over quite a bit, didn’t force many TO’s, didn’t shoot a lot of threes, made a low percentage anyway, did most damage from the paint, biggest pleasant surprise was Coupet. Thanks Joe. I am not on the confidential board. Is there anything you can share about the scrimmage that isn't too confidential for this board? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks again
Good to hear any news so thank you! Coupet? Really? Can’t wait to see these guys in action!

Can’t judge by a scrimmage or the exhibitions. I think it’s a terrible predictor. Cal is expected to be extremely lousy this season but no eyes were there, we didn’t see strategies, sub patterns, don’t know the real goals of each coach.Another long season/

By the same token, you probably won’t get a good feel for things after we start the season 6-0 against the poor competition we play.
Ultimately, you may be right with the prediction ... I just thing a meaningless scrimmage isn’t the best way to try and figure it out.
It was reported that the Runnin' Rebels lost by 1 in the gameI hope the guards are more athletic and are able to play some tough D this year. Seems like we haven't had a great defensive guard since Justin Hawkins

The problem was “highly competitive” with a team that is picked to finish a very distant 11th out of 12 in the P12. Huge gap between 10 and 11. Perhaps the writers are wrong and Cal is better than they expect. They did play with a short lineup, because they have very short talent. From a guy who did report it and still cares about the Rebs in spite of the troubling times:
“UNLV vs Cal scrimmage info: Rebs won a 20 minute half, Cal won another. Cal used their top 7 guys exclusively, but UNLV played everyone (13 scholly guys, + walk-ons). CMM wanted to see a myriad of lineups & get lots of film on everyone. Word was it was highly competitive.”
Dunno how long it will take Trey to catch up. Injury.Guard play is going to be critical, think the big guys are going to be solid, fiesty.. but can Noah/Bryce/Amari/Trey make their mark?? MWC should be better, top to bottom from last season too.
Yeah, I mean it really comes down to what Coach was trying to accomplish with the game. He played everybody so didn’t appear to be concerned with winning but just seeing what he had top to bottom. Is it truly indicative or just a high level experimental practice? Tonight should be a little more clear and it will be interesting to see how many he plays in this game. The problem was “highly competitive” with a team that is picked to finish a very distant 11th out of 12 in the P12. Cal is not expected to be good at all, even worse than last season. Last season we nine spotted them at their place in the exhibition, this year lost by a point at Mendenhall.
UNLV did all damage from in paint and on boards, really dominated there. Didn’t shoot much and didn’t shoot well (from distance). UNLV turned it over a ton, Cal barely turned it over.
I guess we will find out more about the team in early December because every team they play in November is far less than Cal.
More than just tonight, I think the entire month is going to be fiddling with lineups and personnel, seeing what works and doesn’t work. There won’t be any compromising of wins by experimenting.Yeah, I mean it really comes down to what Coach was trying to accomplish with the game.
