If the guys beat Idaho st and North Texas we’ll be in pretty good shape. They’ll have to win four conference games to become bowl eligible. Does anyone know our home conference schedule?
I’d love to get to 5-2 with a chance at a bowl so even if we stumble, we get it.2-2 OOC would be a nice start...
Off top. of my head...
UNR - HOME
NEW MEXICO HOME
AIR FORCE HOME
UTAH STATE ROAD
SDSU ROAD
FRESNO HOME
SJSU ROAD
HAWAII ROAD
Best path to bowl in my opinion...
2-2 OOC
With 4 conference wins..
Best chances.
Hawaii (a lot of turmoil)
Reno (Same as Hawaii..)
UNM
Fresno (Lot of turnover)

But that’s not likely, so just keep it alive as a hope going into the last two games so the fans have a vested interest instead of “I hope we win, let’s see if they improve and hang tough and it’s something to build on for next season”. We’ve had the latter for too many seasons in a row and football and basketball have been doing just that in step with each other. Can’t dash hopes for both early in the season and expect people to show up.
Agreed. I have more energy heading into next season than any other couple win season. I mean, it’s UNLV football so expect the worst, but I thought we tightened up a lot of spots last season and we weren’t losing because of bonehead penalties plays, poor clock management, just playing out the string, etc - you know, the typical bugaboos that usually plague the team. It seemed a little different, more palatable.I just want to be watching meaningful football in November and not posting about next year 5 to 6 games into the season.
This was an odd season. Really only 3 bad losses..
6 one score games. You flip even two of those and there's a fair amount more energy/momentum heading into the upcoming season..

As the season progressed I saw improvement on the defensive side of the ball.
Yes, you read that right. I’m optimistic about the defense moving forward.
Let’s say that Arroyo isn’t the guy and the team doesn’t win 4 or so games. A defensive coach that can overcome all the bs rules nowadays is a very hot commodity, much like a QB “guru.”
My question, if the defense does well and we don’t win, do we promote from within for our next HC? I know that the popular opinion is always to clean house, but what if we have a solid option in house?
I don’t want to look up his dad’s name in case it’s Lon and won’t check to see if Hansen’s middle name is Kevin.
I can’t believe it’s been eight years since we’ve been in a bowl game.
We've only been to 4 bowls in the entire history of the program. Totally pathetic.I can’t believe it’s been eight years since we’ve been in a bowl game.

Interesting your take on Hansen.
Defensively they are getting better. This was his second season as a DC so he seems to be growing with the job.
Was talking to my brother about this the other day (promoting from within).
As for firing Arroyo, I think that our hands are somewhat tied. With his buyout, I don't think we could afford to fire him next year, even if they really wanted to. Unless we get someone ready to pay up to hire someone new and payoff Arroyo.
Maybe the following year, or some sort of scandal. But I think we are stuck with him.
I am hopeful. The defense has been been the best maybe since J Rob? Or maybe Hauck's bowl team.
That isn't saying much, but since we are still building on both sides of the ball, there is reason for hope that it contineus to get better.
Now on the other side of the ball, it is hard to establish a groove and identity with QB roulette. Especially the way that they want to play. Some of that is CA"s fault, but injuries were probably the biggest factor. Pass protection is obviously the biggest problem there. Pass protection has to get better right? How has recruiting been for the O line? I haven't been following that much.
Let's not forget also how awesome Ced was as a dude. Staff and players loved that guy. He's a credit to HBU as a person. I just wish they were better (0-11 in 2021).Coach C was retained a couple of times. But as a position coach and recruiter he was a consistent bright spot and easier to retain than a coordinator.
Hauck's defense in the bowl years was bad...But opportunistic..Seemed to come up with a big play when they needed it.
No snow coming down during the AFA game, but boy was it cold. Well below 0 at kickoff.Yeah, I couldn't remember the defense on those teams that well. I remember Caleb being good for us offensively, and I remember us shutting down Air Force in the snow, right? I figured the defense wasn't too terrible since we won as many games as we did.
We couldn't stop UNT in the bowl game that I attended, I remember that very well.
220 yards for 4 touchdowns. ESPN.com briefly had an error that cause the numbers to doubles so it showed him as having 440 yards and 8 touchdowns. The UNLV Rebels Football Wikipedia page shows those as records 😂I attended that game, Cornett ran for over 200 yards and carried the ball like 30+ times.
He willed UNLV to a nice win!
