SBS Farewell

Sounds like they have a pretty good final season at the LV Wash planned. Every home game celebrates a different decade of Rebels Football. Can't just let the ol' girl pass into oblivion without at least a tip o' the cap.

I honestly will miss that place and our tailgate spot.

A lot of good memories there...A lot of hazy ones as well due to alcohol consumption.

Unfortunately very few of the memories revolve around the Rebs on field performance...

I never understood all the bitching and moaning about Sam Boyd.

Take a trip to SJSU or Reno. Way worse.

Not an ideal location and the dust can get very annoying.

But the stadium itself is an well above average college stadium.

Plenty of parking. Can toss around a football if you want. Good tailgating. You can booze it up inside the stadium which helps when the product on the field is hard to watch.

I'll have to come home for a game this year, any suggestions?

If Rebels get off to a good start. That home game vs Boise would be ideal. Boise travels well, plus the fair weathers will be out in force...Good atmosphere..

SDSU same thing..

As for dust. I get it.

I never dealt with it since we have two spots at Star Nursery field on the grass.

I won't listen to any complaints about how far it is from campus though. It's like 15 minutes. Or the same amount of time it takes for students to walk down to the local vape shop and back.

I've never bought the too far from campus argument either. However, its distance from the rest of the valley has to be accounted for. Not the easiest place to get to from say the west side of town.

The new stadium location will be better in that regard. "More" central to the town as a whole.

I think it’s more than “too far from campus”. Too far from campus might mean closer to where you live anyway and how would that be a major inconvenience? But it is nestled on the fringes of the valley which can make it a bit of a hike for some people, plus there’s nothing out there. I can see that being a deterrent to a degree. It’s not the nicest of situations. I think those that go regularly make the best of it and they are used to it.

But the separation from campus does give it a less personal, less traditional, less lively feel. I think it’d be cool to have a stadium surrounded by things to do, spots to hit, places to meet before and after games. Some ambience and vibe. Boyd misses that completely.

I live on the opposite end of town in Spring Valley.

It takes me 20-25 minutes to get there...

We aren't talking the Batan Death March here..

Agree, the new location is better for everybody.

But after going to a Washington State game and hearing the commutes people were taking to get to Pullman (45 minutes from Spokane) Sam Boyd really isn't that far.

The distance and location have never been the issue IMO. Just an excuse.

The issue has been the product on the field hasn't been good enough to get people out there.

It's funny, how much the Vegas Valley has grown, for some reason the development around Sam Boyd never quite got there. Joe has a point, if there was something else to to. A "Sam Boyd Village" of sorts, it would have helped. Those types of projects seem to be the norm these days, but they are a relatively new idea.

But Bull is right, the product on the field wasn't ever good enough.

Something like that sounds sooooo appealing to me.

I agree, the product sucks and has historically sucked so it doesn’t matter all that much. I mean, T&M is central, has history, plenty to do around the Mack... and look where (true) attendance has been.

Yep.

If the results were better, hardly anybody would complain.

What currently exists around the new stadium site, as far as restaurants and entertainment are concerned? Do we know what is planned? I only remember that area as vacant lots and warehouses.

Having places around the stadium where people can hang out and watch the games on TV, and where people can meet up before and after the games, as Joe mentioned above, would provide an awesome gameday experience. Would probably create fans out of the Joe Patron's that are out there.

Well there's like a half a dozen strip clubs for starters.

Not sure if there is anything planned, though this model typically becomes more difficult/less frequent with football sized stadiums. Typically more parking is needed, some the majority or the surrounding areas tend to be parking lots. Easier to do with basketball and even baseball arenas.

Now it's my understanding that the Raiders stadium (does it have a name yet?) will have horrible parking, which may mean there is opportunity for a village or sorts, so who knows.

Or they could just keep all the strip clubs, good family fun!
