They should've used the F-22 Raptor, it's the movies they could've gone all out even though it's an AirForce Fighter. The vector thrust twin engines would've been nuts. It could've been the F-35B too

I think this has to do with Cruise being in the plane while its being filmed and there not being two-seater versions of the F22 or F35. FA-18 pretty much your only choice.
