Run the offense thru Williams !

Seriously! Where has this offensive efficiency been all year? Is this a "one off" game or do the Rebels play like this consistently from here on out?

Williams is a pleasant surprise. Last night during the telecast, Avery Johnson said that if UNLV had one more guy who could do what Williams is doing to go along with Hamilton, that UNLV could be special the rest of the season. I was hoping for more from Nuga, I think he is capable but in some kind of funk or doghouse because he has gone away lately.

This was a pretty awful UNM team. And so was the other team that he dropped 30 points again earlier in the season.

I think Williams has a ton of upside. I heard the future NBA talk when a UNLV guy has a game like this..

and yes, I would like to see him be the focal point of our offense…moving forward.

While UNM isn't a good team, they are not all that awful. The worst loss they have had to date was an 18 point loss to SMU, that is the same SMU that beat UNLV by 19. They lost by 11 to Colorado who are 11-3 . They went 1-1 against NMSU who are in first in the WAC at 13-2, and they have not lost by more than the 18 point lost to SMU prior to UNLV winning by 29. They lost by 9 at unr and by 3 at home to Utah State in their last two games. Without question UNLV played their best game of the year.

The way the MWC is sorting out, it appears possible UNLV will be in the top tier of the conference. Just look at what SDSU who beat UNLV by about 6 did to CSU. What other teams in the MWC are at the same level as SDSU?

To me, the big difference between Hamilton and Williams is the ability to improvise a shot. Hamilton can get to the rim when triple teamed. He may not finish but he can definately create his own shot. I don't see that so much in Williams. He needs a good point guard to get him the ball in a good position and he needs to be on a team that operates as a unit.

Sound like you are describing Augmon and Marion?

If Hamilton were more efficient, he’d be deadly but that is not consistently the case. Hamilton and Williams are our creators so far this year and I hoped Nuga would be more consistent because if UNLV had those 3 creating on most nights, we’d at least be exciting and we would also be competitive against every team we play.

Amuri Hardy comes to mind of the last Rebel pg to get to the rim. When him and Hamilton were in the lineup together they were fun running our south paw offense.

Hamilton gets the shaft at least 4 times a game. He'll drive to the rim with two or three defenders, clearly get fouled, but not get a call. Pretty sure the refs don't enjoy hime putting it up with no chance for it to drop and they don't bail him out. Even though he gets fouled.

You absolutely DO NOT run the offense through Williams.

He has been so efficient because he can pick his spots and take what the offense gives him. He got in trouble by forcing things earlier in the season.

Hamilton is much better at creating a shot for himself, drawing the defense, and distributing to others. Williams does not quite have the ball handling or vision to do this, yet.

I fully agree that DW should get as many touches he can handle, as long as it continues within the flow of the offense.

Why change something that is finally working?

Also, it is worth noting that UNM had one of the worst defenses we have seen all year. And they were without their head coach. Still, an entertaining game to watch.

I agree. Set plays sometimes make players think too much and it takes away a strength of theirs, natural reaction. Shawn Marion was a lot like that. Don’t draw up a play unless it’s an easy set play like back screens to free for a lob. Just put them out there and tell them to go get it, just play.

What offense?? IMO. yes u do. Set plays for him. Picks , screens and isolations. He can shoot better and finish better than Bryce. It not even close.

I made this exact observation in another conversation with RebelLuv. Would add however that I would love to see the offensive repertoire grow beyond matchup switches.
