Root for SDSU and $ or hell no?

If the center from Creighton could hit shots when he is within 2' of the basket they would be killing SDSU

Even with potential for them to leave in a few seasons, I think its huge for conference exposure and relevance. I would be fine if they won the whole thing.

They are clearly the better program for a generation. It isn't some secret. I'd rather the conference have at least some recognition.

If they win today I don't see FAU beating SDSU so I would believe SDSU will be in the final game.

Believe it or not they are in the Final 4! It’s good for the conference if SDSU keeps winning. The MWC gains credibility with the success of the Aztecs! And there’s nobody that can convince me that we could not field a team like this Aztec team?!! They are marginal on offense and tough as nails on D. Imagine the Aztecs having Hamilton or Harkless to go with what they have now… we could build that at UNLV!

SDSU to the Final Four with a little help from the refs. That last play to me clearly was touched last by #33 and there was clearly at least 0.2 on the clock when the ball hit the ground.

I don’t think the clock started right away when it was touched. Looked like this delay was at least 2 to 3 tenths. Refs ran a stopwatch on the replay.

I felt confidently it was off Kaluma and it was .3/.2 remaining, but also saw that the close started more than a half second after the initial touch.

I see how they got the result they got for sure

That's a reach. Even so it would of taken a miracle.

Guess I shouldn't have used the word 'clearly', I was watching on my phone so I may have been mistaken, but that's not a huge reach. 0.2 seconds under your own basket. Just throw it near the hoop and have your 7 foot center tip it in. Not probable, but certainly not impossible. The foul call on Creighton was garbage too.

No. Not in 100 years... I don't care what supposed respect it gives the MWC...
Sorry, but I grew up in a generation where we didn't root for our rivals or conference foes just because they're in the conference, (essentially the participation trophy for teams who dont make the dance)... and I'm not that old...
It just entitles them even more to screw the conference either in demanded exposure like Boise got in football or protection during season by refs...

I have trouble rooting for them but they are hammering home that UNLV is incredibly small time.

I admire how they pulled their ish together and thru patience, diligence, and a bare minimum of selfish politics turned a nondescript, somewhat hapless athletic program into one of the top 5 on the west coast and positioned themselves very well for any conversation of super conferences in the future. Gives me a ray of hope we can do the same. It's a great feeling having your team in the Final Four and SDSU really did earn this moment the old fashioned way. If it was Reno I'd say go to hell, but I'll pull for SDSU to win it.

Yes, they played the 24 year long game and it finally worked out... it's the ugliest system in both major sports but it's got them in a position to make the P-5 jump.

I dont give a shit either way, BUT if I did give a shit, I pay my respects to SDSU. They did it and did it the right way. I guess you can hate on them and give them the finger on their way out the conference, but they put the work in and didnt take short cuts.

And UNLV knows all about short cuts.

I want to agree, but i just dont. "We suck at football and basketball and so should our conference opponents." And fewer people should care about them and eventually we can watch all of our games on the MWN app and Facebook instead of just some of them.

If our MWC schools were funded well enough by media rights deals to not need every penny from other sources, I'd be more inclined to agree with you. But we aren't the Big Ten or 12. Or SEC. ACC. Or Pac 12. Or AAC. And lately not even the Sun Belt or C-USA in fb.

If I'm a Rutgers fan, I want Big Ten teams to suck. But they make like $50m/year/school. If I'm USC, I was psyched when Arizona lost. Or Florida when Bama lost.

I'll take exposure and wins over spite for a foe given we are a fairly irrelevant conference on the national state in all sports.

(Unless it's reno. Then they should not make tourneys or lose in the first round. Reno is the only conference opponent I have that disdain for.)

Fair enough, but I think the question was more aimed “do you root for SDSU and by way of benefit UNLV with round by round comp credit to the conference and possibly increase our SOS next year (harder to determine) or hell no”

I doubt many, if any here, would root for SDSU for no other benefit than to see them win.

I’m a Denver Bronco fan and would never root for any other AFC West team to succeed, as there is zero financial or future SoS benefit, outside of maybe one pick later in the round or the odd circumstance that rooting for one would get the Broncos in the playoffs, which even then is probably not likely, so I would agree with you there, generationally or not.

If one were to continue rooting for SDSU because of the Tournament Units then you can stop rooting. They don't give Units for the final four (semi-final) nor the final championship game. They got us four Units and the other teams got us a combined 3 Units. So we get those 7 units paid for six years. I believe a unit is worth about $350k. I'm just guessing on the amount because last year's units were worth around $340k.

I'll certainly watch their game(s) but, I'm not emotionally attached.

Unless we're using that money to fund our next HC, no amount of money is worth the BS we're going to get on their victory lap around the MWC... remember, this is the same team that held a ring ceremony for Sweet 16 at the start of conference play only because it was against us...
And this level of disdain is personal dating back to being one of the recognizable faces in the Student Section and dealing with their fan base...

Yeah and that’s all that really matters though. They have positioned themselves to be taken. Take this year away and we would still take the success they’ve had over those 20+ years in a heartbeat especially with what we’ve gone through. I rooted for them up until today, didn’t want them to be able to hang the “Final 4” over our heads. But I don’t even think they care to be honest, we aren’t a rival to them anymore, really haven’t been since Rice was here and even then they handled us those 2 final season.
I’m extremely jealous & I believe a lot of us on here are in that same boat. Just a constant reminder of that should and could be UNLV.

Since 2010-2011 season here is the highest win percentage in CBB…
865 — Gonzaga
.811 — Kansas
.786 — Duke
.768 — Arizona
.762 — Kentucky
.761 — San Diego State

The Show being a factor for future nonsense is definitely a frustration. I think we were in school at the same time, or at least close. Within the last 10 years. That much I definitely understand and, because I'm not in that position and never have been, doesn't really factor in for me.

You're right though - I'd be interested in knowing exactly how that money is spent. Is it lining pockets? Does it go into some beneficial yielding account and trickle pay on some of the program's future needs? If you told me it went to the AD's personal account, I'd say SDSU should lose in round 1. If it went to something actually helpful (maybe future coaching salary or something), I'd be on board bringing the money.

This.

I always root for schools from the West, the only exception is byu.

SDSU has won what 18 of the last 20 vs UNLV? UNLV is just another game on their schedule no different than when they play AFA or SJSU, except without looking those schools probably have beat SDSU more often than UNLV has.
