I have found Vital Vegas as one of the most reliable sources of news well in advance of any formal announcement and usually early on speculation. Their twitter account is largely comedic and amusing in general, but when it comes to news, typically they are well informed.
Vital Vegas usually has pretty good info. There might be something to it this time around.
I do like the way you think, frozen one.Hmmm, Rick had MM as an assistant for years and I think they have good relationship. So he would replace his old assistant
Does not smell right to me. I do not think MM real good, but this does not make sense to me.
I asked Mark Anderson of the RJ on twitter about this tweet and he said "not true" . I'm pretty sure Vital Vegas was just seeing how many Rebel fans would bite & there were a lot. He does like to stir the pot for fun.

In early summer 2013 I asked Matt Youmans if there was anything to the rumors that Savon Goodman was facing criminal charges and he "checked it out" and said "not true".
Unrelated... but "you don't know what you don't know".
Are you saying the Vital Vegas guy is unreliable? What are the "misses" you have seen them have in their gossip? In early December he (Scott Roeben) broke the rumor that the UNLV poop emoji logo had been shelved, and even went into it on his weekly local gossip appearance on Channel 8 News. Other than that I don't know anything about Vital Vegas.
It's sad that some school would forfeit their basketball future and huge fortunes and the greatest source of pride the city had by ousting Tarkanian. You "won"; all the tight little teetotalling holier than thou academians who find checkers too much of an athletic challenge - you won. The school, the program, the city lost.It is a sad thought that some school would embarrass itself by hiring Rick Pitino. Is there no shame left in college sports?
Only a game.Wow, some of you guys take basketball, which is only a game played by young men and women, way too seriously. Chill out and be forward looking instead of harping on the past.
Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous 2019.
He’s naming years long after Tark was done. For a stretch, UNLV led the nation in merchandising too.Name any public universities that made a profit based on academics either. The simple point is that athletic opens up most universities to name recognition for both academic donations and for student applications. Go back and look at the huge jump in applications to UNLV after they won the national championship.
Only EIGHT public universities had athletic departments that broke even or generated a surplus in each year between 2005 and 2009.
Not easy for a department that is losing money to fund anything on the academic side of the university.
I don’t know how long you’ve been on this site, my guess is about 15 years? That you finally gave some credit to Tark just now says a lot. IMO, it’s a thinly veiled attempt, you had to swallow your pride in order to try and gain validation for a position that you knew was going to go over like a fart in a church.Joe, please read what I have said about Tarkanian in the post “The gang that could not ...”
“... that he (Tarkanian) was the best college coach ever. “
Does that sound like I refuse to give Tarkanian any credit? I give him plenty of credit and he deserves it!
Joe, I don't believe I have ever bad-mouthed Tarkanian. What I have tried to do, with astounding little success, is get a bit of balance into the picture of Tarkanian's departure from unlv. I think many posters implicitly read into those feeble attempts that I am denigrating Tarkanian.
I suppose for those that have a god-like opinion of Tarkanian, I am an apostate and deserve to be reviled. Meanwhile I will continue to try and infuse this site with a little balance.
In the meantime, I still enjoy following this year's rebel team. Go rebels.
I fully disagree with this, I'm just not sure who his next victim will be.There is no way in hell Rick Pitino is ever coaching college basketball again.
We'll see. He is a great coach, so there might be a team willing to take a chance on him, but the blowback will be massive. It would be like if Art Briles got hired by another football program. Because he is a great coach you know some ADs across the country have had the thought, but they know the enormous amount of negativity towards their university just wouldn't be worth it.I fully disagree with this, I'm just not sure who his next victim will be.
I agree 100%. I wasn't saying hiring him would be a massive problem and potentially mistake, but someone will eventually take a chance on him. I don't know if Pitino is quite at the Briles level of criminal scandal... but maybe. We'll see.
