Just finished watching the first coach's show of the season on Fox 5 (every Sunday at 11:00 through the end of bball season). No matter the sport or the coach, these shows are almost always 100% coach speak. But there were a couple things from Coach Sanchez that really stood out to me. (Not direct quotes from CTS, but as close to that as I can recall without re-watching it and quoting him)
Regarding defense:
The reality of college football these days is that teams are gonna be able to move the ball a little bit. So the keys of playing good defense is to force some turnovers, play great on 3rd down, and play tough d in the red zone.
On his path to this position:
He recognizes that he did not get here alone and that he rode on the backs of a lot of great PLAYERS and coaches to get where he is. He mentioned players twice. It has been said that CTS has players that will run through a wall for him, and this quote showed me why, he gives credit to the players on the field.
On Decker:
Both Sanchez and Cotton seem to be VERY comfortable with Decker running this team. IF he can stay healthy, I think we'll have a good chance to compete in every game on our schedule. He is mature, smart, and has improved from last year to this one.
On the secondary:
Coach Baer mentioned that he thinks the 2 most important positions on the field are corner and corner. It seems like he is fairly happy with the corners we have now, but I'm excited to see what future recruiting holds from a staff that values this position so much.
There was more, but those were some of my biggest takeaways. I'll post the link to the show once it gets put up on YouTube (probably sometime tomorrow).
