Ranking Oct. 26, 2021

Based on all but 1 of the games this season, where UNLV was just far below the other team in regards to skill, I blame most of the season on bad coaching mistakes and poorly timed penalties and miscues which also fall on coaching. I really don't know if Arroyo will ultimately work out as a coach or not, but I have no doubt that there will be no coaching change at the end of this season even if the team doesn't win a single game.

128/130

Are we blaming this season on Covid, too? Or is this a second season of tryouts?

CBS Sports
UNLV was hit harder by covid by all but two teams in the NCAA.

UNLV is the only school with a newer coach, too.

And have you seen the facilities? Can’t win when that’s what you have.

We also had some rain over the summer and that shortened some practices. A lot of places didn’t have that disadvantage.

We are in between athletic directors. That’s a tough hurdle to clear.

We got a new president. There is an adjustment period.

UNLV basketball has struggled so overall university interest is down. UNLV football needs that trickling excitement. It’s not there. So basketball carries some blame.

The TV schedule hurt us because we had non-Saturday games that made for short weeks.

But we kick ass with uniforms and slot machines.

You’re just a hater BC. If I didn’t know better, I’d say you’re Dasco.

Are there actually any instances of fans making excuses for the team this season? Or are all of these made up for the sake of shitting on the kid who already shit his own pants?

Scheduling Eastern Washington a football powerhouse as a first game is a disgrace for this team. We should have scheduled William of Willam and Mary as the first test.

This is 1000% wrong, we definitely should have scheduled Mary.

I didn’t name a player.

But I’ve been around long enough to know that UNLV fans throw around the excuses better than most. Anything to avoid the most obvious explanations.

Sorry, that was just poor use of a metaphor.

I don’t doubt your experience with UNLV. Even since I’ve been around, I’ve see plenty of excuses from the apologists.

The only sort of thing close to that, which I’ve seen, is Caleb Herring shifting blame from coaches to players, but that’s not really the same.

My point to both you and Bc is that I’m not hearing or reading any excuses, in the form of spin, for how this season is turning out. It’s almost like, you are making fun out of a side that doesn’t even exist.

I’m still dwelling on last year’s excuses so leave me alone… and get off my lawn!

My bad. It’s more of a historical element from the saps who can’t admit when a team sucks or a coach sucks - until the coach is fired or the season is officially over to prove that we suck - then they pile on. Like the Menziites.

We aren’t supposed to be strong with football this year. But we suck more than we should. No way we should have a donut right now and we may end up with it for the season.

UNLV football if nothing else is very consistent. Like Alabama who is consistently ranked in the top 10, UNLV is consistently bottom 10. New season, new coach, new players it’s always the same.

You mentioned culture in another post and I think you are spot on. And the expectations, by just about everyone, is that poor is good enough. Just show up.

I wasn’t entirely crazy about Robinson, style wise, pretty boring and predictable, but he was different here. He ran things a certain way, a way that was different from typical UNLV, carried himself and consequently the program differently. It was easy to see and feel.

Absolutely. My brother played under Horton and JRob, it was night and day between those two, not a knock against Horton just agreeing JRob brought something different. He wasnt a first year coach, he had coached in the NFL and at SC. Since him UNLV has had either a coordinator from somewhere else, a HS coach or a coach stepping up a level, although Id argue from Montana to UNLV is stepping down.

It would be great to find the next Urban Meyer from Bowling Green or another coach on his way to becoming a HOF coach, but UNLV has tried and it isnt happening. Maybe its time to find another JRob and let him bring the "It" with him even if its past that coaches prime.

Even if UNLV doesn't win a single game this season, it is likely the same coach will return for next year. It would make me happy (as happy as a UNLV fan can expect) if they could at least find a way to win a few games starting with unr.
