Well, the decision to start and stick with Rogers through 2 & 1/2 quarters was brought to you by no other than one of the greatest QB coaches of our time, mentor of Herbert, the guru, the QB whisperer Coach Arroyo. He is the master of the delay of game penalty and sooo much more. We gave up a coach that was learning on the job, working as the lowest paid coach in the MW for a coach to learn on the job making more money than any other coach in the MW. Thanks for the parting gift DRF.
On the offensive side it appears that CTS recruited most of our impact players, Chuckie, Brumfield, Magyar, Jenkins, Collins and Arroyo recruited most of our porous offensive line as well as the receivers that had a bad case of the dropsies last night. So did Arroyo stick with Rogers soooo long because that was his guy?
Unless we see some massive turnaround real quick this hire will go down as DRF’s crown jewel.

Herbert was held back by this guy. He was going to get ran out of Eugene had he not taken the UNLV job. UO fans did not like him at all.
This is a thing. Reading their boards people were fired up about UNLV like their kids just walked across its stage.

What a disappointing job in preparation.

Arroyo CLEARLY has one qb who is better than another and wouldn't play him from the get go.
Delay of game coming out of the half?
Seemingly no idea on play calling
Clock management

The stuff he didn't touch? Defense. Which, until the end of the game, was high point of the game. Kicker, too.

Edit: note that I think the talent on the team is as good as we have had in a while. And thats an indictment on Arroyo and staff. Not the players.

If Arroyo stuck with Rogers "because it was his guy" he won't last long as a college coach.

Apparently, according to the game announcers, Brumfeld had missed 4 practices at some point so Rogers ended up with the starting role.

On 1100/PressBox they mentioned that brumfield had missed around 100 snaps per Arroyo. If he missed 100 snaps in practice and it was still that obvious, wouldn't you still start him?

I want both kids to be great. I really do... but man, just looked like one guy was ready and one wasn't, to me.

Pete I'm with you until the Sanchez part. The returns were diminishing. Hadn't moved the needle an inch on the defensive side of the ball in 5 years.

As for impact players it only makes sense the most high profile were Sanchez guys. It's rare for true freshman or even redshirt freshman to be your impact guys.

Arroyo. may not be the answer, but Sanchez wasn't either.

I think we are going to be better than I thought. Brumfeld looked good. For me, the big question is does he look good next week. On the plus side, I assume he gets most of the snaps during practice. On the negative side, the opposing will assume he will start and prepare accordingly. Will our coaches prepare him better than the other side will prepare for him.

I’d rather be optimistic. Enough negative sh%#$ in the world.

Arroyo, the QB Whisperer, 😂😂😂! If he thought Justin Rogers was better than Brumfield, Arroyo might as well be “Helen Keller“ cause Rogers ain’t hearing or seeing him!

Well you know I was a Sanchez supporter but I was also a Hauck supporter as well as Sanford. I believe the 3-4 year carousel of UNLV coaches has doomed our FB team to near obscurity. Unless we are invited to a P-5 and can step up to the plate with big boy money we aren't going to make a sure fire hire. Unless & until that happens we are shooting blindly into the dark hoping for a miracle and will continue to rinse & repeat & wait for the new guy to recruit his guys and when he has his guys he is already on the hot seat with one year to make or break it.

I do think it is ironic though that the QB whisperer couldn't attract a Freshman QB better than Sanchez' recruit. However the defensive recruiting seems to be where the most impact has been made. Is that due to Arroyo or another coach on staff? What if the QB whisperer actually turned out to be more of a Defensive whisperer?

When have we fired a guy after 3-4 years? I would love to see that happen but for the last 30 years we’ve always given coaches 5+ years even when it’s obvious they should have been fired already. I think this belief that it takes a minimum of 5 years to find out that we have the wrong guy is part of UNLV’s problem. Nobody else in the country waits through 5 years of terrible coaching to decide it’s time to make a move.

We wait that long because our administration is so inept at raising $$ for a buyout.
