That's basically the one word that Jelan Kendrick used to describe why our offensive execution has been poor when he did his interview on 670 AM the other day. He said that the players haven't been doing things such as screening, cutting, etc. with a purpose. The more that I thought about what he said, the more I realized that he's right. As an example, we stole a zone offense play from Arizona that they used against us this year. It involved a big on big screen under the basket. Arizona set a hard screen to free up on of their bigs and got an easy layup. We tried running the play, and one of our players set a half-ass screen. The result was predictable. Another example is when we've fed the post. The wing is supposed to screen the player in the corner to keep the players moving and to make it harder to double the player in the post. We've executed this at about 50% effort.
This is one of the major reasons why Dave Rice failed. He could not get the players to run the offense with a purpose (on a consistent basis).
