With only 2 returning players, one of whom redshirted last season, we essentially have an entirely new team. I haven't seen hardly any of the current guys actually play, other than a few highlight films, so give your thoughts on who you think will be the starting 5 next year.

I may be way off, but I'll throw this out for an initial guess. Go ahead and tell me if I'm an idiot

PG: Myles Che
SG: Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn
F:Naas Cunningham
F: Kimani Hamilton
C: Emmanuel Stephen

It’s too early! Lol

I'm still hoping for a dominant big who can set a screen, get the ball and drive to the basket if a lane is open. Most of our past bigs have not been able to put the ball on the floor without a T.O.

Transfers (8):• Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn (Illinois) combo guard• Emmanuel Stephen (Arizona)• Al Green (Louisiana Tech)• Howard Fleming Jr. (UTRGV)• Ladji Dembele (Iowa)• Naas Cunningham (Alabama)• Kimani Hamilton (High Point) Returning / Recommitted (4):• James Evans• Tyrin Jones• Mason Abittan• Jacob Bannarbie RedShirt (1):• Issac Williamson ← Flipped from New Mexico. Myles Che, pg.
At this point, Stevens, Che, Dembele, Hamilton, Al Green. Then we flip the scrip, Cunningham, Gibbs-Lawhorn, James Evans, Fleming, Tyrin Jones for a full court press/3/4 press. We also have Williamson who may beat out everyone listed above. The last line up assumes Tyrin can play PF vs veteran D1 players. The other option is Cunningham, Hamilton, Dembele, Che, Abbitan in other words, these athletes are all really good and were all highly recruited (except for Che who is under the radar good). I would pay to see practices, they might be just like Houston and tougher than the games.

There’s a whole lot of goodness in this post, that’s a nice mix of players we have here for sure!

The wild cards are Bannarbie, Williamson, Abbitan, Evans, Jones who are all really solid D1 prospects. With great coaching and practice ethic can they push the veterans Gibbs-Lawhorn, Cunningham, Dembele, Hamilton, Stephen, Al Green, Howard Fleming, Che for playing time. Jones has the height but his outside shot may not be needed with a great point guard, Fleming and Williamson are inside your shirt defensive players and tough to keep off the floor, Abbitan is a high flyer too, Bannarbie may blossom having to practice with real D1 players Dembele, Stephen, and Hamilton.

I agree the younger guys have a lot of growth to do but they would be in the same boat anywhere else worth playing at.

The recruiting has me curious and excited for the upcoming season, I can’t wait to see things come together!

The younger players are a developmental scheme... I think Josh has recruited players that need 2 years before they're ready to jump to a P4 transfer portal acquisition. If they overperform in yr 1, then we will be really good and they will have earned playing time and a transfer portal pay day.. If they arent- he's recruited enough high level talent that is starting quality to compete this year that are either on their last NIL pay stop or a high level transfer we're borrowing for possibly 1 season(like Che)... Again, there will be portal losses from that group regardless, but I think the way Josh has recruited it tells a story of stacking a ton of young underclassmen that weren't getting playing time but are extremely talented with some highly talented veterans.

Agreed!

This is the way for UNLV basketball going forward and I believe Josh knew this and is recruiting accordingly!

Turnover is unavoidable for a G5 like us, the players that average 10pts, 5asst or 5rebs will get poached in most cases.

It’s good to know we have a coach who knows this and works within this mindset!

I thought that one girl on Twitter was optimistic. I’ll bet even money we don’t win the natty next season. 🤣
