Looks like practices are closed this year, according to the football SID. Hopefully with the way they have been using short videos on Twitter/YouTube we will still get plenty of content.

The fact we are upset/surprised shows there is at least some new interest. If this had been the case with either of the previous coaches , wouldnt have mattered all that much.

Maybe a few of the sessions will be open but probably wont find that out for a few days. I just hope coverage is solid from the University/RJ. With the new broadcasting school lets hope we get some extra info.

New broadcasting school? Thought when I attended UNLV it had a journalism and media studies program, surely broadcasting would be there? Had to be a Broadcasting (video) and Broadcasting (Radio) etc program.

Either way, would be a huge misstep to see the program reduce coverage at the time where it's probably peaking historically.

Sorry meant a specific "Sports Broadcasting" major.
Huh... I didn't even realize that wasn't offered before. I guess I had never looked. Definitely hope they'll allow students in that field some kind of access, even if it doesn't mean the public will get more out of it. Would be good just for the sake of getting broadcasting students around UNLV sports and around the program.

That's a bit strong, IMO. I think Coach Sanchez knows EXACTLY what he is doing with regards to publicity, social media, creating a buzz, etc. I am sure there is a specific reason he has chosen to close most/all practices to the public. I don't know what that reason is, but I'll trust him on this one. Call it blind faith, but I feel like we're in good hands.

And believe me, I was REALLY looking forward to reading reports from @rebelbuck, @Pistol Pete 1 @Bullmastiff 1 and whoever else was able to attend. Those reports get me through what will be a SLOW sports August waiting for football to get in full swing on Sept.1.

Sanchez probably has his reasons for closing practice. Maybe with the large freshman class and buzz around the program he wants camp to be very focused.

Not that spring ball wasn't very intense/focused but most schools around the country limit public accessibility especially fall camp. Maybe a few weeks in there will be an open work out and meet and greet style event.

My feeling is this has something to do with the QB battle. While there will still be reports from the school (and media, I suppose), those sources tend to present objective facts and not try and convince fans of one over the other. When you bring the public into it, I think you see stronger opinions one way or the other, and it is more likely to fuel a QB controversy/factions among fans.

Could be way off; just my guess.

QB battle was my inclination as well. Maybe I said it a bit strongly, you're right. I like what has been said by both you and buck both. Keep players focused, especially with new guys. Maybe keep some speculation of starters in various positions a little bit less .... spotlighted, possibly make gameplanning just a little bit more annoying for JSU? Not sure realistically how much that would be, but it comes to mind.

Sanchez definitely has a reason. My point was (and I'll stand by it), when a program like UNLV is covered as heavily as it has been for the last 6 months (which isn't a ton really, but given its historical context...) it seems like it'd slow momentum off the field. Now maybe it's gonna pay dividends on the field. If that's the case, then by all means!

I'll even go as far to say it extends across the two-deep. You know he has no intention of going into LA and laying down for the Bruins. The less he can tip them off in fall camp and against JSU the better our chances there. With all due respect to the Tigers, look for a conservative game plan in the opener and a lot of guys playing.

That's a really interesting take. I hope you're right and that we can play an uber-conservative game in the opener, while still winning convincingly.

Another thought: the further away we get from the 2015 season, the more we forget about the changes that have been made and the new feeling around the program. We forget that we were up by 10 points @NIU at the half. That we played UCLA very tough before Decker went down and KP threw an inexcusable INT for a pick-6 just before halftime (not to mention leaving points on the board bay going for a fake FG instead of taking the 3 points). That UNLV played a very strong Michigan team even in the 2nd half, and refused to be bullied by the BIG 10 power (0-2 on 4th down conversion attempts). That even late in the year, we were down only 1 TD in the 4th quarter to BSU before the wheels fell off.

UCLA is a good team, and they have the horses to make it a long game for Rebel fans. But if last year taught us anything, we should be able to keep things interesting for a good portion of the game. If we've really grown as a team from last year, things could get very interesting down the stretch.

Any advantage that we get from closing practices and playing close-to-the-vest against JSU I'm all for.

I'd be willing to bet the restrictions loosen a little the weeks of CMU and Idaho, but tighten back up again going into the conference opener vs FSU which, in my mind, is a must-win if we hope to build momentum and go bowling. It's also important psychologically, as we are on the verge of surging past Fresno in the minds of fans and writers. I'm guessing early-in-the-week access after that, closed later in the week.

2 Scrimmages will be open and there is a meet and greet for season tix holders for Aug 20th . Coverage should be solid from UNLV and media department.

They must be working on something extremely different from last year on both sides of the ball that they want both mornings and evenings to practice with. We have the pieces and playmakers now to make some interesting offensive schemes. I m guessing the qb battle will be over relatively soon so they can hone in and take advantage of talent sets.

I think there would be uber disappointment if JS didn't step up and take the bull by the horns in the QB battle.

With such a high number of true freshmen listed in the 2 deep, I'm hoping none of the experienced upperclassmen are invloved in live drill more than once a week.
Its going to be about to developing a high level of consistency during fall camp. Its best to keep fans away prior to game day.
