Seems weird that more has not decommitted . I think they are waiting to see who we hire. I NOW think and HOPE that if we get the right hire maybe we can keep a majority of the players. Im sure playing in UNLV stadium, the practice faculties and UNLV relevance does not hurt. Unless Odom is waiting to see who he wants to bring with him.
Lets face it most of our good players are Seniors. Most of the players left would not get a P4 invite. IF so they would have to compete with P4 starters for PT. If they were to transfer they would go to a NON-P4 school if they wanted to make sure they get some action.
We have a HUGE rebuilding process regardless if Odom stayed of left. 25 seniors are gone. I believe !
I was lurking over at Washington State's forum and they have a lot more names on their list. They are also going to be replacing both the DC and OC so that might have something to do with it.
I also wonder if our NIL package has anything to do with keeping our guys. I'm sure we don't have the P4 NIL bags to throw around but, we may be taking good care of our employees...err I mean players. Losing 25 seniors might free up some NIL money for the younger guys. I don't really know what these guys get other than I had heard something like $3000 a month to some players. Was that for all players or just seniors I have no idea.
It might not be a bad idea for us fans to throw some money into the UNILV bucket to help keep and attract players.

Good point. I would think though that it opens up more scholarship positions at all D1 schools thus opening more opportunities. Adding 20 more scholarship positions to football is a lot. Gives a big edge to the P4 or schools with a lot of money. Will it hurt us? Probably too early to tell.
I would sort of think the same thing, but I’ve also heard comments that sort of paint it as cautionary for players.

To be fair, when Garyt committed Barry hadn't even been contacted by Purdue yet. Boilermaker folks got to Vegas on Wednesday for a formal meeting/interview.
Not exactly a shocker. Funny though. Wasn’t sure that Garyt would even start for us, will be somewhat surprised if he’s any good there.
I think he probably just wanted to play for his dad. I'm not surprised by that at all, and it doesn't seem unreasonable.
That was my first thought also. The ironic thing is, before committing to UNLV, Parker Meese had like 31 scholarship offers from schools from the SEC, Big 12, ACC, PAC and Big 10, but none of them were from Purdue.
Wtf are you expecting here? Barry could be coaching a D-III school and his sons would follow him.

I really hope UNLV can make another homerun hire. I would love to see Odom totally fail and UNLV have an even better season next year!
A little over the top, my bad. Just recruiting kids who just signed at UNLV to jump to Purdue like immediately. Sounds like that was the plan and he wasted UNLV scholarship offers on purpose. That's not a great look.
That’s how it is, we were all excited to get SEC transfers from Arkansas. They’re excited to be getting mwc transfers from Unlv. It’s the nature of the game now
IMO this one will be a 1200 plus yard rusher in a year or 2.
That makes me laugh. How far has Purdue fallen that they're tweeting lowly UNLV recruits to come to "hop on their train."
We definitely didn't use him enough. I'm not a fan of running back by committee. Many backs get better throughout the game with more touches, getting into the flow of the defense
Maybe you ought to post something inflammatory on our board and see if you get a rise. Remember that we don't have a moderator over there. The majority of our bailers were benchwarmers, although we have lost our best RB and our punter (punter? WTF?) and a couple of starters. That said, there is only one player that WSU cares about keeping. QB John Mateer, currently practicing with the team for our bowl game. One major bummer is that his hometown of Little Elm, TX is 166 miles via freeway from Norman and OU (where our shitty OC just went).
I’ve seen guys entering the portal from teams in the CFP. That I truly don’t get.
you can start talking with other teams for your services while still keeping the option open to stay with your school. Its legal tampering essentially.
They need to enter now so they can get their name out and be contacted. By the time the CFP ends, a lot of spots will be taken up. It's also very rare that guys that are actually getting playing time are entering. It is usually someone that's buried on the depth chart.
Casey Cain did the same thing last year and stayed with Texas until their run was over.
If the Mullen hire comes through, this might be why we haven't seem a huge number of portal entries and decommits
I'm sure Harper told the team that unlv is looking at all options, including Marion, Scherer. etc. Even if he had no intention of hiring them, to buy a week or two in order to get the new guy in. Then let the new guy work to keep them once its announced
