Back-to-back 18-15 seasons in a bad conference with NBA talent. It's mind-numbing.
I just hope as we move forward that regardless of coach or players coming in, that we've learned our lesson. Talent doesn't equal success. We're the off-season champions of the world, every damn season.
Other than SJSU, we lost to every team in the conference.
We could certainly use some humility moving forward. We need the right coach, bringing in 3/4 year players. We may have to start from scratch next season, but as long as we're building from the ground up, I'm okay with that. We need to be okay with that.
We can't half ass this building process like we did the last five seasons. I think Jaylen Poyser is a great foundational player to start with. Young, eager to learn, talented. Though I want to keep DJ, PM and JC, they're either gone now, or soon will be. They won't be part of our new foundation.
Obekpa is another Rice temporary fix player. We'll be transfixed by his defense in the offseason, when what we really need is a Cameron Oliver.
Culture, continuity, leadership. Things we desperately need now.
