Overheard in the Rebel LOCKER ROOM:

The players should look at this opportunity as a chance for redemption. Fair or not, the players from the last few years and the Rice era in general are going to always be remembered as huge underachievers. They were contributors to arguably the most underachieving and embarrassing era in school history.

Those who choose to remain have a chance to change this perception of themselves. Those who flee will be remembered by many as running from a real coach who will make them work. That's just how it is.

Beard could turn out to be a one-year wonder; he wouldn't be the first or the last. That's the gamble you take by hiring a coach with as little experience as he has in D1. But by all accounts i've heard, the man can coach and demand respect, something we've obviously been lacking.

Obviously i'm biased as we all are as Rebel fans, but I absolutely feel those who stay will be looked at a lot higher than those who quit. These are young men and their decisions shouldn't be scrutinized as much as they are, but that's the way it is. Hope they realize their reputations are at stake.

I don't understand why a player would transfer. Either way you will be dealing with new coaches, a new system but atleast if you stay at UNLV you have are settled into your academic setting and have established a home, friends ect.. If a player doesn't click with Beard, then he should go, but if a player leaves because Augmon was passed over, that is foolish. I respect their loyalty to him but in the real world you don't quit because your favorite boss didn't get the promotion. I would also hope that Stacey would tell his players NOT to leave because of him. At first, I was hoping maybe Stacey would be rehired but I now think that might be a mistake. His presence might under mind Beard's authority and cause further divide. I still hope they keep Ryan Miller for his recruiting skills and relationships he has already built with future Rebels. He was out there still meeting with our recruits fighting for UNLV while Stacey went silent. I hope the players give Beard a chance but if they leave, I wish them well.

I agree, Stacey's got to go. Not that it's going to be an issue, I don't think Beard is stupid enough to keep him around. As for Miller, that could be a possibility but it doesn't help having Mendenhall trying to put pressure on Beard to hire him. Let the guy make his own decision, don't try to handcuff him, it's bs trying to tell him who he should have on staff! Is that what happened with Simon and Rice?

If you don't understand, that means you are refusing to see things from any other viewpoint than of that as a UNLV fan.

A player would transfer because he has played organized basketball since he was 12, and he knows his fit, and he knows that he isn't going to be a fit for a new coach's style.

Certainly, there may also be ego and sour grapes involved in some cases.

We hired Beard, Beard gets to drive. I think it's absolutely crazy if he lets Miller (and Fisher) get away, but the head coach makes the calls.
He'll own the results.

I hope we get to see Fisher and McCaw in the same badkcourt. I think that would look really, really good.
