Only six games left at SBS.

Tonight marks the last time we will play Reno at Sam Boyd stadium. What are your best memories of the cannon game in Las Vegas.
I think ‘94 was my best memory of the Cannon Game. Horton’s first season, he became the UNR redcoat, we were huge dogs with no real chance. Maybe a 28 point underdog? I remember scoring with about a minute left to win. We went 6-5 on the season and beat Central Michigan in the LV Bowl. Great end to the year.

I do remember a Nick 54 yarder in that game and. Very critical, field flipping, 91 yard punt by Brad Faunce in that game.

I think. I’m old.

Not only the best Cannon game I’ve witnessed, it was one of UNLV’s top 3 or 4 that I’ve watched.

Always hated the stadium. Really can't stand NCAA stadiums that are not on campus. At least the new stadium will be fairly close to the campus. This is by far my favorite memory.

1981 UNLV 45 BYwho 41 Best game ever. F lavel Edwards...

I’m with the dr. I will always love and miss the stadium. I was at the very first game and basically every game ever played there, minus a few. I love how close the seats are to the field. Not only watched great Rebel games but tons of high school games mostly Gorman in the olden days. Spectacular games: Gorman-Valley Gorman-Western Gorman-Reno in the ‘79 State title game. UNLV-Boise St. with Mike Thomas. Still my most memorable play at the Silver Bowl/SBS. Thomas broke off an 88 yarder on the second play of the game. If you all think Lexington Thomas is Lightening, Mike Thomas was much more so. So yes, I will miss the stadium, and the memories. I suppose in true Vegas style we are going to demolish it? Anyone know??

I'll miss it. There are worse stadiums. Especially in this conference.

Star Nursery tailgate area is great

A lot of my memories revolve around tailgating and friends.

For football it would be in no particular order:

Last night
The game we killed Utah
The Iowa State (Phillip Payne) game
Wisconsin games (we didn't win but were fun)
Comeback vs Central Michigan.
The game vs Timmy Chang and Hawaii that went for like 8 hours..

Best memory. I’m already yelling at DRF on my video phone and the Rebels score finAlly score in the middle of my rant.

2 years from now we will be complaining about the paid parking and 30 dollar tickets and still be losing.

Beating Arkansas and this game..probably best memory.

I didn’t see any fights this gAme. Damn millenials

The LV bowl beating Arkansas is probably it for me. I was a student then so it carries a little more weight. It made me a UNLV football fan for life for better or (probably) worse.

Honestly I don't get all the hate for SBS. The location sucks. Not close to campus and some bad parking lots. But the stadium itself is very good. I've been to a lot of college football games and the stadium is better than average.

The 3 rules of real estate value apply here =
1] location,
2] location
3] location

Well, it’s good there are less fights, that stuff sucks.

But we are talking about a generation that will hug their emotional support pokeman pillow instead of lashing out. So I guess that’s good.

So true!!!

If I couldnt be bothered to drive an extra 15 miles to get to Sam Boyd there’s no way in hell im bothering with parking for a game at the new stadium, where there is no parking and terrible solutions. I would rather go to Sam Boyd.

100 degrees outside and 70 degrees in a domed stadium...

There's enough parking for a UNLV game.

I have a lot of good memories at SBS, the '94 game vs Reno in absolutley frigid weather, smoking Arkansas in the LV Bowl, the Idaho game that set passing and receiving records (Jason Davis, Randy Gatewood), my first game, and season as a UNLV student in '90 tailgating with new friends from the dorms, watching my brother play for UNLV in that stadium.

The new stadium will be absolutely horrible, not the stadium obviously it will be nice, but after the first couple of games when 8,000 people or less show up in a 60,000 seat stadium if will be embarrassing. UNLV needs its own 35k seat stadium, Ill take SBS over the Raiders new digs.

I agree Rebel Bro. We will miss the SBS digs. I will catch shit for this post....

What counts is the ability to get good teams to come play against UNLV. The old stadium will not compete with the new stadium is regards to being able to draw top level teams. In regards to parking, it sucked in the gravel (if you don't have season ticket parking), but I am also worried about how they will handle the new parking situation.

Was it huge decision not to move the stadium down south a few miles. There would’ve been plenty of parking within a few hundred yards. 2400 parking spots at a 65000 seat stadium is ridiculous

They didn’t want parking, they wanted outsude retail and a carnival

You can Uber or lift to the games, you can park at The Orleans and take a shuttle, Blue Diamond and something road. I think there’s another spot somewhere for paid parking.
At most from any parking lot is a 10 minute shuttle ride lol

'81 BYU game was great, but it was a road game, not at Boyd.
Saturday was sweet. 23 points down, folks leaving, then...

Some may remember that the stadium was engineered to support a second deck, to hold 72,000. That was the future, as viewed in those days.

Or, that UNLV forced Tony Knap out because of a 6-6 season.

I remember back in the days UNLV v.s. Boise State, and 18K showed up when Silver Bowl held 15K, fans up in end zone, those were the days in the 70's, Vegas was small and UNLV sports meant something to the community.

The extra 15 miles that too an extra hour off your life? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
The parking at the new stadium will be more than excellent in a couple of years.

The new location is perfect for the continued development of the Strip. Parking won't be an issue for long.
