Instead of season tickets this year (giving them up after 10+ years) I am going to take the family to the Notre Dame game. I have lived out of state since 2016 and can't bring myself to paying for the 4 tickets in one of the most expensive sections again to only go to 1-2 games and then struggle to find people to take free tickets just doesn't seem worth it anymore.

I am sure I will still come down for 1-2 games a year but will just pick up cheap tickets on StubHub or something the day of the game and sit wherever we want too, more than likely.

Does anyone else plan on making the trip?

Anyone have any experience going to a game in South Bend?

Where to stay? What else to see while we are there etc.?

Looking forward to the trip, I am sure we will lose by 30+ points but it's definitely a bucket list location to go see a game.

I’m planning to go. Don’t know much about South Bend, but we might end up staying in Chicago and driving to the game from there.

Big House, Ohio St. and South Bend sound like amazing Road Trips.

Hope you have tons of fun.

In football, we’ve been on point with scheduling road games.

I won’t be able to go next year probably to any games..football or basketball.

I will be there. Hope VGK or the Lakers have a game in Chicago around the week or weekend.

I went to a game in South Bend, ND vs Texas a few years ago. Ive been to games in a lot of places all over the US and it doesnt rank in my top 10 places to see a game. It was fine, just not great. South Bend is a dump, an old rundown town. The campus is nice and Im glad I went but Im not rushing to get back.

The highlight of the trip was the Linebacker a dive bar across the street from campus, a total shit show in the best of ways. We got to the bar around 400pm on Friday the parking lot was roped off with tents to create an outdoor space. Out there they sold 22 oz beers for $5 or $6, Lagunitas IP I think was $6 for 22oz. There were a lot of fans from both UT and ND, and by the shape some where in at 400pm I think they had arrived at noon. After a couple of beers outside I needed to hit the bathroom so for the first time I went in, I assumed most people were outside but couldnt have been more wrong. I go in an there is a DJ and the place is packed, the dance floor was packed as well mind you this was 5pm ish on a Friday. If you do nothing else in South Bend other than the game, go to the Linebacker on Friday night.

And since I mentioned it my top 10 places Ive been to see a game, in no order:
Oregon
Alabama
LSU
Nebraska
Clemson
Washington
Ole Miss
SC (when they are good)
Texas
UGA (barely makes this list)

When I went to USC I couldn’t afford the extra $25 for the student ticket for the ND game. This is almost 30 years ago so I can’t imagine what they charge for that game now.

I will say that the gameday experience at SC was a lot of fun. The team was a little over .500 I think but had Rob Johnson (QB), Tony Boselli (O-Lineman), Keyshawn Johnson (WR), and the DE for the Patriots that won some SB’s and ended his career in Cleveland I think.

Fun story: somehow I got lost and wandered into a practice. I heard pads popping between the NE DE and some O-lineman in a drill. I never heard that intense of a pop before - grown man level of collision. It was cool to witness.

Top 10 is hard as it gets every close between 5-10, I didn’t even include Ohio St or Florida St on my top 10 but both probably shoube in there, went to Ohio St vs Oregon this year like ND fine but not great. I’ll try and rank my top 5. I rank the whole experience from time I arrive in town for the weekend through end of game and after game.

Alabama- vs LSU a couple of years ago when LSU beat them, magnitude of game definitely added, vs say they were playing Vandy.

Oregon-I’ve been to many games in Eugene, stadium rocks. As good as any place to go for a game.

Nebraska- just different, people so friendly and nice, by the end of the weekend almost annoying.

Washington-I’ve been to a ton of games here too, No better setting in CFB than Husky stadium, arriving and leaving by boat.

Clemson- it was vs UNLV a long time ago, but my first time to a game in the South.

one place not in my top 10 but is an amazing place to see a game at least once is Airforce.

Agreed! Often overlooked but AFA vs a good Navy or Army team is an experience and a half!

I'm planning on making the trip too. That means I will be watching Notre Dame live two weeks in a row as the Irish plays BYU in Vegas the week before.

A game in South Bend has been on the list most of my life. I'm pulling the trigger this fall.
