NorCalPreps take on Gabe McCoy

Great write up love the hard work this guy did what a great role he can potentially contribute
I love this signing because he potentially feels a spot role not some run of the mill combine stat guy a guy that plays with no heart. Love the undersized speed guy.

Will I know you put this up as another way of demeaning the signing but that is exactly why you don't get it, we need guys like this is it a gamble yes but the traditional old combine guys you hock constantly don't cut it unless you can measure heart, hard work and determined drive ..... Which you can't. Exactly why there wasn't a starter in the Super Bowl on either team above a 2 star player, the Seahawks get it maybe you will to someday.

Other than him being undersized I am having a hard time finding anything really negative about the kid even in this article. They made the same point I made in another thread, that if this kid was an inch taller and weighedt 230 or 240 he would have been four star recruit.

I think the staff grabbed this kid with something in mind.

Anytime we get a player from the eastbay ie. Antioch,Pittsburg,Vallejo..the talent is ridiculous.

Would love to open up this pipeline.

Sanchez is familiar with that area and is going to recruit that area very hard every year which is fine by me...I would not be surprised if down the road you see a break down of recruits that looks something like this. (Given 25 scholarships a year avg.)

4-5 Las Vegas
4-5 Texas (predominantly Houston area)
4-5 California (predominantly Bay area and Northern California)
1-2 Hawaii
1-2 Utah
1-2 Arizona
2-3 Juco
1-2 Other (Mostly likely Washington,

Actually, there weren't any 5* guys in the Super Bowl but there were plenty of 3* and 4* players along with a good group of 2* players. Stars are more legit in major areas the national scouts evaluate rather than places off the path. Its rare for national guys to evaluate talent in smaller states and they do rate at a scale.

Overall, the evaluation does reinforce that my opinion wasn't extreme. McCoy is a slim player with a DB type frame that would be hard pressed to get to 215 and be effective. Its rare for programs to use undersized pass rush specialist and the DC has no history of doing so. He will need to develop a primary position or be a special teams guy.

As to the areas Scrub stated produces a ton of talent, UNLV can really take who they want as they are usually slim on FBS option. Excluding the UNLV signing this year, this is a breakdown of FBS signees from the areas over 5 years.

(Spaced at 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011)

Pittburg goes 1, 2, 0, 1, 4
Eric Dargan (Oregon) and Josh Jenkins (Army) are starters

Vallejo area goes 0, 2, 0, 0, 0
Jalen Canty never enrolled at Washington State making the number actually 1

Antioch area goes 0, 0, 0, 0, 1
Kristoff Williams spent a season as a starter at Washington State but left football as a senior to focus on his post football career.

That is with 7 FBS or FCS school surrounding the area.

Many Folsom guys usually land at Cal Poly where early target Tyler Whisenhunt from California HS also landed.
Marcus Bruce went Sac State.

As for Concord with De La Salle and Clayton Valley Charter it goes 2, 4, 3, 3, 4
2014 signee Kevin Griffin transferred to Cal Poly after one year at WSU, 2013 included David Moffit who signed with UNLV, 2012 included UNLV WR Anthony Williams, 2011 included Kevin Chase who never made it to campus at SDSU
If you account for that the actual players minus UNLV goes 2, 3, 2, 2, 3
Few that actually sign rarely go to mid-majors

I'm sure there is talent in the area but not an excessive amount and much that is available to UNLV are FCS caliber or projects. Javin White had offers from both New Mexico schools but the remaining grabs from California and Washington either had no offers or the FCS options.
Maybe they were just overlooked but all come from areas that see nearly every FBS program passes through to take a peak. Hopefully they are the guys to get this program over the hump.

Just a side note: Between my parents, they had 22 siblings so I when I note family but there are a ton of us.
I have a lot of family in the Chabot, Eastmont and Trestle Glen area in the Bay so I familiar with the area. The majority of times, I travel to the area for the major football camps.

I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt to the Division 1 college Football staff that comprise around 100 years of experience at that level. Rather than the bitter local coach who has an agenda. All coaches swing and miss or fail in evaluateing players. Happens at all levels. It's not an exact science. If McCoy fails, I won't hold it against the staff. Hauck put out the worst defensive teams in FBS, and never saw your outrage over his selections and that they were not all Vegas guys. The rhetoric is getting beyond tiresome

Just to show the point your research as always is half ass just this year alone Pittsburg sent 2 one to UNLV and one to BYU.

Are you seriously arguing that there isn't football talent in Northern California? So 8 million people have less talent then Las Vegas? Dude we get the passion but you need to start back on the meds.

I was excluding UNLV signees and it wasn't a knock on Northern Cal as a whole, just saying the areas noted don't actually produce a ton of high level talent beyond De La Salle.

What's the anger for when its just a note on facts? Just a point and counter point discussion.

I will refrain from posting further and get back to regular life.

No anger here you just seem to always conveniently provide just one side of the story depending on your motive.........
I don't for the life of me see how at this point you could harbor such a grudge against Sanchez or UNLV already especially someone committed to try and build a local Football program to be proud of It provides a local alternative to many of your overlooked local gems. Give Sanchez some time before you slam everything about him and what he's doing the guy is a winner and driven to succeed on and off the field we have never had that and trust me I've been going to games since the 1970''s.

How could you forget Concord?
I'm a jerk, I lived there for 3 months.

Did Wil knock on East Bay talent with stats?

Wil, you gotta get out more and visit the east bay. sure it's riddled with violence but God damn..the Athleticm is off the charts..

Welcome Bull Mastiff to the boards. Love that we are gonna make inroads to the NorCal region.

Only major schools are Cal and Stanford..it's wide open out there unless UC Davis St Mary's Santa Clara and Sac State have football programs

Thanks for the welcome have actually been following for a bit now, just had some login issues..I could read, couldn't post.

Debating Will is a wasted few minutes of your life you wish you could get back, I've posted a few hundred times over ten years and probably 80% was debating him on track/football athletes and speed, it was a waste of my life and time that I wish I had back, he knows it all and everybody else is a clueless UNLV/Vegas homer. He is bitter for some reason.

With how much they are talking about adding speed to the team especially the defensive side of the ball I think the TCU comparison is exactly what they may be trying to model. Get as much speed on the field as possible and swarm to the ball.
