No point guard, no under control penetration. No point guard, no penetrate and dish. No point guard, no ability to defend against penetration. No point guard puts McCaw in a position where he needs to create shots. Not his bailiwick. No point guard, no easy buckets for Carter and Zimm. No Point guard and Rice starts freaking out and the guys play tighter and tighter as the year goes on, year after year. Hard to play this game when you are always looking over your shoulder to see if you are gonna be taken out of the game. This is a game of confidence and if you don't have it you are sunk.

Harris abused our guards as badly as Doolin was abused last year and we knew he was going right no matter what, Hello! What really confounded me in the last game was we got back into the game running zone D and we took it off as soon as Harris took a break.

A new position needs to be created for Rice. He could be like the CEO and owner and hire a staff to carry out his vision. His vision is good. Uptempo and pressure D. He just can't get it done for whatever reason. But he can recruit like a mad man! Rebels need someone on the bench that can instill confidence and swagger into this team.

Just my 2 Cents worth

Why does it take year 6 years to bring a point guard into the program? 6 years!

Yep, agreed. Most important position in CBB.

If Rice gets whacked following this year the biggest reason will be the fact that he never recruited a point guard who could play.

Can't disagree with your take at all. Also, I don't post too often on the Tark board. But I have been on the pg recruitment issue from day one. Clearly the most important position in CBB.

Rice so afraid of his inability to coach and develop a PG he always goes after veteran players hoping they had already been developed by another coach. He tries to move marshall to PG, goes after two 5 year seniors Doolin and seagears. Those 5 year seniors left other programs for a reason, have no rebel pride. Develop your own PG, Rice. Use the freshman u recruited and develop them to meet your system. Deal with their growing pains by coaching and developing. Having a freshman that u recruited and wanted to be a Rebel from day 1 is how you develop a PG leader. Have a 5 year transfer as a mentor and backup.

If poyser does not start next game, I've official given up 100% on Rice. He will have sent all his players the wrong message again. That you can go out on the t and m floor and give half effort, not follow the game plan and still be my starting PG.

Word. You and me both. Though every year I've been the guy who believed the transfer PG "patch" would work out.... Fail.

Just a quick spitball of names Rice has brought into the program and it's clear what position sticks out from a talent (or lack thereof) perspective...

Shooting guards; Vaughn, Mccaw, Katin, Olekaibe
Wings; DJ, Kendrick, Cornish, Morgan, Bruce
Forwards: Bennett, Wood, Roscoe, Carter, Goodman
Centers; Zim, Khem, Goodluck

Point Guards; Doolin, Seagears, Deville, Cook.

Sorry if any obvious omits.

Lot of good players in the first four groups. Demonstrates the positional talent gap pretty well I think.

I was really hoping and praying Rice would've landed Tyrone Wallace, as he could've been the key that locked Rice in as coach for life. Now we'll have to wait and see if he makes it past March.

Actually it is my understanding that UNLV took a pass on Ty Wallace and took D Cook instead. Also, let's not forget Nigel Williams-Goss was committed to UNLV when Rice was hired and it was decided to not to aggressively re-recruit NWG a McDonalds All-American point guard. That's my recollection and any one is free to jump in if that's not the way it was.
