If a QB like this wants to come you make room we have no guaranteed stud QB’s on roster.
He's 2026 so who knows if he honors the commitment.
A lot can happen from now until then.
With the portal and how volatile recruiting is now hard to get too excited about anybody anymore.
(Think he's a really solid get definitely not complaining)
Is he any relation to former WSU Coug QB Aaron Garcia? Who went on to - I think - Sac St. then had a long Arena FB career? You can't escape the long reach of my Cougs......
Yep that’s recruiting nowadays he might change his commitment 6 more times between now and then.
Lets be honest. This is a good pickup. However, will he ever start for UNLV? Only freshman that are elite come in and start. UNLV will recruit another good QB from the portal by the time Colandrea and Orji leave and Garcia will most likely never see the light of day in Las Vegas.
I would disagree with you on that. In 2024 we were in the red zone 38 times and did not score. I think that's why Mullen picked Orji up.
That and Orji is physically gifted with abilities that make him a potential stud QB if Mullen can mold his passing abilities... I mean honestly, we were 2 bad quarters away from the CFP with 2 QBs who threw around 50% completion rating... Orji might not have been a prolific passer at Michigan, but we also don't need a 75% completion rate with 4000 yard QB to win the MWC...
Plus his name is Orji, the ladies will love him in Vegas.
Passing wise Orji was God awful, if he doesn't improve and he starts we are in trouble. In terms of accuracy he makes Sluka look like Brady. But Mullen has a good history with QB's so it is definitely a risk that makes sense with his physical skills to take him. If he doesn't improve as a passer then he can still play a few plays per game and be productive at QB running the ball.
Alex is our Taysom Hill and hopefully he is the guy used for a “move the chains or red zone” package!
The only freshman QB to start at UNLV was Jon Denton? Was there anyone else?
Maybe because of injury? Can't remember one off top of my head. Did Caleb get some run as a Redshirt?
