NBA expansion 2024!??

I will not support an nba team in Vegas. For one ticket prides will be too expensive!

Someone has to pay those $100million salaries, just like the other sports.
I watched Laker basketball, Twins and Vikings football, as a teenager.
Wonder how many kids can afford those tickets today? $100+ for the cheapest game tickets.
That is why I am less understanding with complaints about $75 season tickets for Rebel hoops.

I'm sure that will excite the people here in Seattle, they're still pissed about the Sonics leaving. The only time I've cared about the NBA in the last 20 years was the 4 years I lived in San Antonio. Hard not to pay attention when the people there are so Spurs crazy. Especially when they're winning titles.

As UNLV fans, we’re dead meat.

It was nice knowing you guys.

The death of our basketball program was inevitable.

I wonder who it will be that will own the NBA franchise. Hope they shoot 10 dollar rolls out their asses and piss gold coins.

I wonder what the colors will be. The name better be synonymous with Vegas.

The school reacted too late. Many alumni and fans stopped caring about UNLV basketball.

This new franchise will have a fresh new start.

UNLV had ample time and opportunity and did nothing with it. They virtually had a monopoly and they had money (Tark years). And they had time. Everything you need.

Yet, UNLV doing as UNLV does, they twiddled their thumbs thinking the Tark Machine was a simple creation that would keep on rolling.

Chase away long time fans, hire the opposite of Tark, a lowlife hothead, chase away more fans. Try to rekindle with Grg, that didn’t work but it was at least a smart effort (in my mind anyway). UNLV was cratered at that point. Bayno brought some excitement back, he climbed us out of a big hole and got fans to return. Spoon was a babysitter and it was only 2.5/3 seasons. Didn’t lose fans, didn’t gain fans, but lost time. Kruger rekindled a lot of it with the Kevin year, excitement was high but the program was still miles away from where it once was (still couldn’t win conference). Rice came in and it looked good early, taking out some giants and exciting fans on the recruiting trail, getting kids back into the NBA. But then you get the TKM debacle and the program is set back what might be near a decade with the hiring of Menzies. And then DRF with Pretzelburger.

UNLV is what, 9 years without an NCAA tournament? Yeah, that’s what we did before Tark stepped foot on campus, and this is the only time since.

UNLV has nobody to blame but themselves. The one consistent thing about this program is that administration has sucked. Can’t hire people that don’t know sports at all, can’t hire people that aren’t go getters. But UNLV does things that way. It’s a very poor organization.

I hope Seattle happens but not Vegas. The franchise would fail in Vegas. Basketball is different than any other sports. It is a finesse sport. Americans is not a finesse people. This is why soccer never become a mainstream. It take time to build loyalty with basketball. Raiders have established fans in Vegas since I was in grade school. My friends and I use to wear matching Raiders' jacket in 6th grade while ruling and playing tetterball. Gangsters!

I know that for some, we should punish Harper, Kevin, and Arroyo for the sins of previous administration's and coaches. But, I just can't do it.
The worst damage those people in the past did, is create a bitterness that dominates some today, making it even more difficult to heal.
I only hope that somehow there are enough people trying to look forward, and give their support.

Seattle got completed f'd by the NBA and the DB owner Clay Bennett, they cant get another team soon enough. I dont think the NBA needs more teams but if the only way Seattle gets one is by expansion then expand the NBA by at least 1 team.

I play hoops with kids from IMG all the time. I ask them "ever heard of UNLV"? they answer "NOPE". They literally have no idea who UNLV is or was nor do they care wtf happened 100 years ago. We fell off the map a looooooong ass time ago. I guess thats why they call us "diehards"...

Absolutely true, RWAC. UNLV dug a deep hole. It will likely never get close to the 30-year old Rebels.

But, one step at a time, it may get better. 18 wins was better than 12. We have a coach who wants to be here. He has assembled a pretty good staff. He is going after talent.

Maybe it will go for naught. But, I think there is a desire.

Yeah, that window has long been slammed. UNLV was able to ride the Tark coattails for awhile, but it was going to dry up eventually and it needed to be replaced with some relevant modern day success, but they failed with it. Can’t call up stories of Augmon and Johnson and Anthony anymore with the youth of today, showing grainy VHS conversions isn’t going to make a kid say wow.

The HS kids of today were essentially born when UNLV made the S16. In a couple of years, UNLV won’t have an NCAAT win in these kids’ lifetime.

UNLV has little to no relevance even within the local landscape … now it’s cross your fingers for the tiniest of morsels and party like it’s 1999 when you get one.

Welcome to the new normal.

I know people who have season tickets for UNLV football because they want to watch football without paying Raider prices. With UNLV lowering its basketball prices, you could potentially see some of the same effect - people that want to watch basketball but dont want to pay NBA prices.

I’ve lived in NBA cities most of my life, SoCal, SF, Boston, Seattle, Portland, I’ve been to one Laker game, a couple Trail Blazers and Sonic’s games and one Celtic game. I’ve been to hundreds of CBB games all over the US. I’d think there are a lot of people like me that having a NBA team wouldn’t change the fact that I’ll choose a CBB game every time over the NBA.

Old time college hoop was better, yes. Lots of present college hoop is boring as they try to run same stuff pros do but todays college players are not good enough to run it. Not many easy hoops these days as hardly anyone runs anymore and shots are 3 balls or a guy driving vs 2 or 3 guys.
