MWC Commish Thompson stepping down

A little Hair removal!
I wonder what's coming that would've blown him out of the water, anyway. Expansion going to gut the MW and he says, "I'm too old for this shit" ?

Meh at this point, it doesn't matter who is commish, they really have no say.

Dominos will fall and the MW will just have to salvage whatever they can.

Unfortunately, I think a Pac conference with as little as 3 teams, will have more clout on grabbing teams teams than the MW adding previous Pac teams. I guess it will be up to the PAC commish and remaining teams what they want to do.

I think a smart, imaginative, vigorous leader can almost always make an impact wherever they are. Every year a few brilliant CEO's will take over basket case companies and turn them into cash cows. Can we get someone like that? Questionable.

If the Pac drops to three teams, they will have nothing to offer.
They have the name and prestige and the TV contract connections.

It would be a shell of itself for sure, but I think they will more likely to pull from the best remaining MW teams, that it would be to add them to the MW.

He’s been head since it’s inception. Has the conference moved forward?

No.

Those that got too good moved to greener pastures … unless they were delusional and petty, then they went indy.

One piece of credit I will give, even though it failed because of poor execution - themtn. I hated the standard definition in the age of HD, the studio talent was weak (winka dinka doo Fletcher and Todd C doing basketball) … I hated that the channel was close to 1000 … but the concept was a bit ahead of its time and I actually enjoyed watching all the conference teams complete all day long on a Saturday. It was a good way to spend the day. Too bad they really couldn’t capitalize. Of course, part of capitalizing is having some national success and the conference teams didn’t carry their weight.

I’m not going to miss the guy; he had decades and we just stagnated. Don’t know that the replacement will be better, but I doubt they’ll be much worse.

I agree with Warthog - positions like this can be absolutely critical - like a proper AD hire. Sometimes you need a forceful, aggressive, energetic, won’t take no for an answer type of person to run through walls. If you are a top conference, not so much; you are there, you need to maintain. But when you are behind, you can’t be a wishy washy complacent.

Just like the SEC there should be a Commish and then a board. The board should include the Raiders owner someone huge and have a lot of $$$ per school. The CEO of Allegiant airlines. Just to make sure. I said board not regents. Aka corrupt regents. Listening in the radio for the UNLV vs CAL game was atrocious.

Who is the King of Vegas today? For example, we have been talking about water shortage in Vegas for about 40 years, yet new developments sprung up every year. Some of the craziest development like Lake Las Vegas community. Who is the King? Get him or his company on the board.
