Not to bring the schedule up again, but UNLV is 2-0 and yet the game against Dayton is pretty much a must win. Probably our one chance at a good OOC win. I don’t really think we have a chance at an at-large even with a win but for sure have no chance without one. The losses by Boise St and Fresno so far really hurt.

Would be a good win, it’s our first actual test on the season. These first two teams were brutal beyond belief and it’s hard to believe that they won’t be the worst on the OOC. I don’t think it will help overall for an at large, that fate was decided when the schedule was made short of winning 90% of the schedule.
It’s against a ranked team, people show up for those games at 2-3x the regular rate … with people actually in attendance, it’s important to have a good showing, imo.
Agreed. I expect our defense to overwhelm Dayton in the first 5 minutes. Questions are whether we’ll be able to maintain that level of effort over 40 minutes, whether we can convert TOs into points and whether we can be patient enough on offense to create good looks. Tall task for a new team early in the season, especially against a veteran club.
OOC is irrelevant for us at this time. Dayton is taller, as experienced, play in a good league. We have some great guards playing in their third game together, a little weak without Isaiah at the 4. It will come down to point guards, base line trap working, rebounding vs taller team. By the way, Wyo lost today at home. BSU beat WSU in the battle of the lousy shooting percentages, lots of games to play. SDSU is for real and we play them two to three times so OOC is a little less important. The important thing about the beginning of the season is to constantly improve in shooting percentage, types of shots, movement off the ball, rebounding the offensive boards. Defense is the key for us in every game. Take care of those things and NCAA' seeding will be tough anyway you look at it.

Great win last night. Not necessarily pretty but appreciate the hard-nose defense, grit and fight in this team not rolling over when they were down double digits. Plenty to work on, especially on offense, but it looks like CKK has a group that has the potential to be molded into a very tough opponent in the MWC. And the win was without Cottrell who should add another dimension down low.
