Looks like Michigan State doubled his salary after he turned them down 3 days ago. Colorado had the 35th rated class according to 24/7 Sports. This class contains many high rated 3-star recruits most notably Jerry Rice's son Brendan. It will be interesting to see if they can hold on to this class while they search for new coach.

Colorado had a monster class. CU had to un-retire 3 numbers to get some of these recruits to commit to Boulder. It would be funny if those kids decided to go somewhere else now.

That tells me a couple of things. He’s in demand, he gets trust of players... also says the guy will bolt for greener pastures, whether it’s an outright lie (he knew he was leaving the whole time) or the situation jumped up and became too tough to pass up. Either way could be considered “dishonorable” though.

Show me an assistant coach that isn’t willing to make a change if things are right. That doesn’t make it right but it is the way it is, the whole morality thing .. well, you know. I personally don’t like it but I’m not going to hold it against the dude.

Interesting that this could mean even more coaching changes for the MWC this year. There's a ton of names floating around so these guys are probably way down CU's wish list but I've seen 4 Mountain West names mentioned.

Bohl - Wyoming
Harsin - Boise State
Calhoun - Air Force
Norvell - UNR

Would we or should we be mad if any of those guys jump? Would you be mad at yourself if you left your current employer to double your salary elsewhere?

I know if Joe doesn't double my salary here soon I'm taking my talents to a P5 message board. I've already been approached is all I'm saying.

This guys could have been a POS, or he could have been sincere.

Maybe he thought he was going to stay, then they doubled his salary and he couldn't refuse (understandable enough)

Maybe he was just trying to extract more money and he played the game to the point he lied to recruits and their parents, knowing he was likely leaving.

It does suck for the CU players, especially the incoming recruits.

Lon Kruger left the same way. Money talks. I liked him and wished he stayed but good for him. Now that piece of chit that left us after a week and went to Texas Tech is a different story.

What coach would ever tell his recruits that he was looking to leave so they shouldn't come to his school? Do that and I would see it to be good grounds for the University to sue the coach to cancel their contract.

Why blame Bird? He got more money, a dream job, he wasn’t going to be a long timer here... and he saw what an absolute mess the roster had become (tip, mind the shop when they are without leadership or they’ll get lazy and irresponsible with their grades)... so he cut out two or three years of half of the pay he was getting ... saved time, made money. Sucks for us but sounds like the right decision if you look at it objectively.

You are probably right. A week working for TKM is more than any man should have to endure.

They got a five star kid from Alabama in the Transformer portal. It'll be interesting to see how many of their kids wind up leaving.

CU was 5-7 last year, he's going to MSU ship is sinking ship big time, he's going to Big Ten East Division, the 2nd best Division in college football behind SEC West, hes taking the money and going to get whipped up the next few years, good for him. Throw out loyalty, most coaches are cockroaches in filthy waters of college sports.
On the coaching staff they are recruiting, if they can coach UNLV should be able to contend with BSU, no reason this cant happen. Who would have thought Football over basketball at UNLV.

Leach gone. Tucker after one year....gone. Pac12 is a stepping stone job.
the b10 and sec schools make a lot more money than the other conferences. in 2019 the b10 teams were paid 54 million and that number is projected to keep going up every year.

That was on my mind when I made that post. The Pac12 has a lot of problems and to me the guy running that conference is a big part of the problem. They take in less money but then they spend more money. That joker signed a lease for their offices in SF to run for 11 years at over $6 million per year. The SEC and B10 I've read spend less than $2 million dollars a year on leased offices.

That being said I sure wish we get an invite to their conference.

Why begrudge a coach for leaving at any time? Loyalty? About as loyal as the schools themselves. Sure, it sucks for the fans but money talks. Have a family to support.

In my opinion, the issue is this specific coach. Made a statement under 12 months ago about there not being a transfer portal in real life.

There is. It's called getting a better job. He did that, but before he did that he told his kids they shouldn't.

Coaches are hired guns. There is no such thing as loyalty with them.
There’s very little loyalty in any direction in the coach-university-player triangle. That very thing makes teams a little more impersonal to fans (but tbh, same thing happens with mass free agency in pro sports) and it just takes away from the overall quality, in my opinion.

"Mr. F'ing Howdy Doody" has been at the AFA for the last 13 years. Has done a pretty damn good job considering all the challenges the service academies face. Would be a big loss for Air Force.
