Looks like this guy committed

Being a taller QB, is it more difficult to be mechanically sound as a passer then a smaller QB? What are the struggles and misconceptions you've had to overcome as a taller QB?

What is this question?

I've never once worried about a QB being 'to tall'...

I didn't take it as a "too tall" question, but a legit concern (he may have got it from the staff).

Actually, that's part of Rogers issue according to UNLV coaches, mechanics and being taller it's harder to get mechanically in sync for taller, more athletic QB's. I've spoke to other coaches about it at the Glacier Clinic and it's a real thing.

He passed on unr, UCLA, Kansas and Utah

It’s “too tall” not “to tall”. Grammar police on patrol.
Was Ed “Too Tall” Jones Too Tall?
How about Tom Brady is he too tall. He is only 1 inch shorter at 6’4”. He obviously has a lot of issues with mechanics.
Or maybe Ben Rothlisberger is too tall at 6’5”
How about Diop from the UCF Knights, is he too tall at 7’6”?

Very bored watching the PGA tournament waiting anxiously for another self absorbed college basketball player to tell us either he is or isn’t coming to UNLV!

Name one QB coming out of college that the NFL has ever said, he might be to tall?

I have heard to short.

Never to tall.

There are short QBs with bad mechanics.

Too tall to throw properly? I've never heard this. Ever.

I've studied throwing mechanics for my entire professional career (and even before this). I never heard this excuse, err, reason, err, rationale for why a thrower doesn't throw with proper form.

Rogers has poor accuracy not because he doesn't throw a football properly but because he doesn't throw the ball to the proper place with the proper velocity on a consistent basis.

Greg Maddux, who could hit a nail on the head, was 6' tall. Is that the proper height to throw accurately?

As a Houston Texans fan Brock Osweiler was heavily criticized for being too tall. Mostly because his release took FOREVER
He is exceptionally tall at 6'8" and he has long arms.
Tall guys tend to be stiffer in the pocket too. Though Brock moves ok.
He is also just not very good.

He had a long release no doubt.

But I don't think being tall makes QBs mechanics inherently bad.

Avg NFL QB is 6'3 this dude is 6'5..That means there are quite of few 6'5+ QBs in the NFL.

Dont get me wrong. Asking Blumfield a question like this is a bit of a stretch, no pun intended.
But people were asking tall QBs and possible mechanic problems and theories exist out there. But 6'5" is tall for a QB, but there are plenty of proven guys out there that size with no problems whatsoever. Plus he says in the article that one of his strengths is a quick release. So there's that

Well said. I have heard idiots, including a certain recruiting guru, say that 6'5" is too tall for a college QB but "stupid is what stupid does".

First off, every QB is different and the differences are more stark at the college level. Was Vince Young too tall to lead the whorns to a national title? Yes he was a dual threat QB but his arm was more than good enough to get it done.

And when NFL QBs are looked at for their heights, it's abundantly clear that the idiots saying that a 6'5" QB is too tall to be a great passer....well, they are morons.

First off, there are 10 starting QBs in the NFL who were listed as 6'5" or above in college who ended up being listed as 6'4" in the NFL. This includes the best QB in recent times, Tom Brady.

Second, there are 8 starting NFL QBs who are 6'5" or better. 4 of them have been Pro Bowlers and 3 of them started on Super Bowl Champs. Big Ben and Flacco were Super Bowl MVPs.

I shouldn't be surprised by the question.

Same guy went on air a few years ago and predicted UNLV would go 8-4 or 9-3.

This was the year they lost to Howard.

Then he had the balls to tell UNLV fans they are unrealistic to expect Sanchez to turn the program around in 4 years. This was always a 5-6 year rebuilding plan.
Same person that predicts 20+ wins in hoops?

Some people are real. They just tell people what they think people want to hear. Fire them up. Things go awry? Lead the charge the other way.

Be independent, think for yourself. Form your own opinions. They might be right, they might be wrong, who cares, be honest with yourself at least. Stirring the pot or stroking the egos just to get eyeballs is sleezy in my opinion.

Yep...

So you guys are taking shots at Arrigo now? Why? You can say what you want about him, and I am not a fan by any means, but he provides the best content with recruits. I took the Baldwin/Irvin thing as a comparison, nothing more since no one knew anything about him, except for Arrigo, who had all the information regarding him before anyone.

The dude is always finding the positive points for the program, something a lot of people here and on other sites don't do. I'd love t talk with him about why he takes that approach compared to the opposite.

Why haven't any recruits done any interviews here, but instead go to him? I think that also speak volumes to how the school (if they give him any info) and players and recruits think him and about this site. I'd be willing to bet if Arrigo was available most UNLV sites would want to have him come to those sites and work with them, even if it was just for his recruiting information.

Wadilove is good at certain things and predictions isn't one of them.

Great nothing wrong with that. But don't try to put lipstick on a pig and tell me it's a super model either..

And he does that. A lot.

Being positive is fine if you are also covering the negative as well..

Otherwise you are creating unrealistic expectations in fans and painting a false narrative.

Which he does...

Arrigo provides solid recruiting updates.

He then does extremely hyperbolic write ups on players blowing them up. Way beyond what is neccessary..

This in turn elevates fan expectation.

Then when the team doesn't achieve the type of success he damn near guarantees, he blames fans for having unrealistic expectations.

He has done it since day one of covering UNLV.

He attended exactly how many practices this Spring?

The answer was zero.

Yet he said Travis Mumphrey was 'electric'.

Now don't get me wrong. The guy has some mobility. As he got more comfortable he threw the ball with better touch and accuracy. There is something to work with there.

But he wasn't electric.

He tweeted one of the JUCOs was a shutdown corner in the mold of his favorite player Deion Sanders.

I mean Jeeeezzzzzuuuussss settle down.

Either he is a serious journalist covering the team or a fanboy/shill for Coach Sanchez. Pick one.

Arrigo already got dropped from the pregame show. And I know why. So no, UNLV wouldn't want him around again.

I also know exactly how he gets the interviews with players....

But not going to air that out here...

If he is/was a serious journalist he would have covered the 2016 class. He would have broke down the fact that class was a complete miss on the defensive side of the ball. In a class of only ten, they have all either transferred out or have made little to no contributions.

It's a huge reason the defense has continued to struggle.

He won't do that, because then his access to the team would get shut down....

No recruits have done interviews here because nobody is covering the team...

He said he wasn't at Spring (other then the last practice) because he was having a baby and was not in Vegas during that time. I can understand that, especially if it was a high risk pregnancy (which I don't know if it was or not), so I can respect that.

As for him doing pregame, if I recall correctly he said he was going through a divorce and that he took time away from everything to get himself together since it took a lot out of him. The shows were good he did with Grimala, insightful and entertaining to me. I don't think the school had any issue with him and has no control over who does the pregame show, since they have Bischoff doing it now and he isn't well liked by UNLV, it is an ESPN Las Vegas call.

What corner was he talking about?

I recall him saying Mumphrey was electric during the recruiting process and in the Brumfield article. But we haven't seen him on the field and anyone who knows football knows that practices and the Spring game is controlled so to say he's not is the same as saying he is.

It sounds to me you have a personal beef with Arrigo.

How does he get his interview with players? My son wants to get into that line of work and I would love to give him some tips as to how he can get interviews!

If Arrigo never went to UNLV, and admittedly is a USC guy, how can he be a fanboy? He's not Matt Gutierrez wearing VGK jerseys to games and claiming to be a media member, calling the team "us" and openly complaining about non-calls. I don't see a fan boy in Arrigo. I do see a guy who thinks the team should have been to a bowl or in a better position by his "predictions" but the team hasn't lived up to it, whether it was due to injuries, poor play or bad coaching.

You act like you know the guy or knew him and know making it personal. I will say this about him, he is a guy that has never said a negative thing about any other site and takes the high road. I respect the fact he did a retraction of the Matta story and apologized for it. Not many would have done that, yet he did.

He barely attended any last year or the year before that...

He never showed up. They dropped him.

So Arrigo who never went to a practice can say a player is electric. But people who saw him in practice are wrong to say cool your jets a little and let's not heap to much on a true freshman are wrong? Gotcha.

ESPN's Program Director (Mark Siedel) said they didn't drop him. He was at every game except the SDSU game, so that is not true, and that came straight from Siedel, who would know.

I seen him at most of the previous springs practices in past years, this was the first spring I didn't see him there since he started covering the team and I go to most practices.

As for Mumphrey, we will see if or when he gets on the field.

Well, it's ironic that I have seen DRF come up and hug and have private conversations with him and CTS and other staff members do the same. While he may be overly enthusiastic when it comes to the direction of the program and CTS, I'd rather hear that than Bicshoff and all his negativity.

Look like he addressed you and others right here a few minutes ago: https://t.co/m15TFnTs1X

So unless you spoke to Grimala, Arrigo clearly states that he was only other person who put the show together and who did the pregame (unless it was a person running the board), you either got bad info or aren't telling the truth. He did say that the only game he missed was SDSU and he was caught in traffic and he was on the phone with both Grimala and Siedel trying to get a fill-in (which ended up being Mark Anderson). It seems you were listening to Shaprio who said that and was proven wrong and caught lying (again).

Also, I never heard him compare Aaron Lewis to Deion Sanders. I did hear him say his is a nickel back that reminds him of a Jaire Alexander type, a shorter corner who can cover taller receivers. I also think he uses those comparisons to give the casual fan an idea of the type pf player or how they play, not as "the next ___" since most people have no clue as to who UNLV is looking at and who they play.

So because Lewis didn't run with the first team in spring he isn't good? Have you considered how the defense played very little nickel defense in spring and that's where Lewis projects to play almost exclusively? If that's the case, then Vic isn't a starter since Hester ran with the first team with Salu. I'd bet Skipper was just getting reps out like an NFL team does in a training camp. I fully expect Hester and Viramontes to be the 2 inside backers, something they didn't show or do in spring camp.

Arrigo's recruiting info is more than helpful, he is the one person I go to since he knows the most about it, and it isn't close, even for people here or on other sites.

It's true, I don't care for Tyler, I think he goes out of his way to put down UNLV. I know for a fact that UNLV called ESPN Las Vegas and had a meeting with them regarding him and how he covers them and threatened to pull his credentials if he continues to go out of his way to put down the programs.

Maybe his projections are what he thinks they should be if injuries to key players didn't happen and he could be right but we'll never know since we've had key players go down and the team suffer because of it.

I deleted most of this thread. Nobody wants to read through it. It was a good get for Coach Sanchez...

Shouldn't steal this dudes thunder...

I agree but it shouldn't have been deleted. Isn't this the point of forums and discussions?

It is. But it is only going off point and further off the rails..

It's like arguing music. You like what you like. You aren't convincing people to change their mind...

Shoot me a DM. We'll discuss it there if you like..

Joe, Vegas reporting of UNLV have gone this bad?
Eh, I don’t think it’s isolated. I do think it’s societal at large. Not just sports. Seems like shock jock extremism is pretty common, eyeballs are important to people, to feed ego, put money on the table, whatever. The nuthuggers and haters are more populous than before. And I do think that’s made it’s way into mainstream media. Fanboys drive me nuts, they always have. We’ve got a handful. And the straight haters are just as bad. It’s all agenda driven drivel. Little truth, m.o. laden.

We have some guys that keep it pretty middle ground, which is the way it should be ... but the fanboy percentage is high and they just don’t stop. It gets old, fast. So when you know there’s an agenda with a topic, I steer clear of it ... if I can continually pick what you are going to say with high accuracy based on your consistent haterade or fanboyboyism; no longer a reason to waste time and energy reading.

Journalism was a noble job at one point in time. Not anymore, because they’re too hard to separate.
