What are the chances of him being granted his waiver? I have no idea of the likelihood of the NCAA granting these historically. Even if they would, do we want that or is it better for him to sit a year given the injury and our likelihood of having a far better team in two years (and a less daunting schedule)?

Tate Martell got a hardship waiver at Miami... no excuse for NCAA to even pretend anymore.

That said, I agree with you assessment. I would rather him sit a year. Acclimate to the school (academics and campus existence), the city, and his teammates and coaches. Would rather him come in and have guys around him that know what they are doing already and have him feel comfortable in the system.

If he sits another year the guy should have his diploma by then and still have 3 years of eligibility. I'm hoping the NCAA allows him to play.

Having his diploma would be scary because he could have a good year and get plucked as a grad transfer from a P5 school. As long as our O line can protect him that would work too.
