Do you guys think Juice will come back next year? I know McCoy is leaving in about a month. What are the chances Juice comes back?

From what I understand it is a done deal that McCoy is gone. Juice is the one that might be gone.

Juice air-balled one of his free throws. First time since high school. He immediately went to the side lines to do push-ups as a form of self-punishment. When asked about it in the post game conference, Brandon says "I was gonna slap him. Its either do push-ups or get slapped."

LOL Juice didn't bat an eye. You can tell they are pretty good friends.

The Basketball community on the CB of RN? Where else do you acquire your UNLV info?

I know all kinds of people in the basketball community. I also know all kinds of people around UNLV. I hope you are doing well bcvegaspt!!

It was my understanding from the beginning that all signs pointed to McCoy being a 1 and done. This article from si.com has him going in the first round (#24), but not in the lottery.

He could benefit from another year, especially given Menzies track-record with helping big-guys develop, but if he is looking like a first-round pick, he will probably go and I won't blame him.

I have a hard time seeing Juice leave after this season. I haven't seen him show up on any draft boards I've seen. Of course, if he continues to put up double-doubles every night, that could change.

Official prediction: Juice returns, McCoy declares.

I think they both leave.

Scouts looking at McCoy and will be like, “who is this Juice guy?”

Everybody is saying McCoy is gone so if there’s smoke there’s fire.

I think for Juice it all depends how far he carries us post season.

If you’re really that good, you’re gonna carry your team far into a post tournament and it will give him pub.

If you look at all the US players that are drafted, they carry their team. I think scouts look for those intangibles.

Juice is a great D1 player. Offensive footwork is fantastic, his knack for knowing where he is remarkable, his body control and hands very polished. Against Wyoming, he scored a basket by finger rolling putting english on the ball like it was a baseball. Very impressive indeed. He is mature and has a developed body. He is a workman. All these attributes make him ready.

But there are some limiting factors too: He is untested. What is he going to do against NBA players? Is he tall and athletic enough to pull down a rebound in the NBA? Is his mobility (defensive footwork) good enough?

I'm rooting for him to make a career in the NBA. It helps our program's future recruiting. And while I would selfishly love for him to return, if the time is right and the opportunity looks good, then I say GO FOR IT and declare!

Now is also a time to mention that there was a point in time where I didn't think McCoy would be able to declare for the draft. I thought he was too soft. This translated into poor defense. I'm happy to say that I think I are seeing McCoy figure things out and toughen up around the basket. He is bringing down the tougher rebounds, challenging on defense and making other team's bigs pay. I dont know if he's ready, but he is certainly turning my opinion around on him.

If this was in the past under Rice, Juice would be gone to be undrafted and play in the G league--kind of a Roscoe Smith situation. We will see how Menzies is able to keep the team together. Juice could definitely be an energy guy off the bench in the NBA--kind of a poor man's Kenneth Faried. I don't know what he has to gain from staying another year in school vs turning pro unless he really enjoys the college life. His body is already mature and he isn't going to develop a reliable outside shot or handle with an extra year of college. That being said I hope he stays.

If i was JUICE bye bye. His abilities at his level is very rare. Not saying he will be a superstar, but there is nothing left to teach him. Other than freethrows, His 19 foot jumper is better than his freethrows so that will be a easy fix. U cant tell me he is not better than 8-12 of the benches on most NBA team.

If he isn't projected to be picked in the first round it wouldn't hurt him to come back, earn his degree, work on/showcase other skills, then present himself to the NBA draft next year. Yes I'm being selfish.

I want “Juice”, and McCoy, for that matter, returning to the Rebels next season. I believe we are on the verge of wonderful things from this team. What Coach Menzies has lined up to replace a couple of stalwarts in the paint, like these two, I have no idea. It’s hard to imagine a tandem as impressive as them.

Brandon appears to be a sure first-rounder. Shakur, is a bit iffier. Those of us who have watched him work around the boards, probably believe he has all he needs for a successful NBA career. But general managers might look at his size and think that he won’t be able to compete with some of the animals that play power forward in their league. He might benefit from another season of stats to back up his ability to calculate the trajectory of a rebound.

And yet, there looms the ominous specter of the curse of “El Hud”. A player must weigh the possibility of earning serious scratch, vs the dreadful chance of catastrophic injury.

It’s a cold business, the NBA. They have no room on their rosters for compassion. If a talented young player, sustains a potentially career-altering injury, his name gets put at the bottom of the list. Case closed.

So I cannot fault any player who honestly believes that he possesses the necessary skills to compete at that level, from making the jump, as soon as possible.
