Jayden Maiava first recruit of 2022

Considering he is listed as 199 out of the ESPN 300 and a 4* recruit, who are the other recent 4* recruits UNLV has recruited out of high school (not transfers), and has UNLV ever had an ESPN 300 recruit before?

His rise up the recruiting charts, as well as his overall talent, are why I'm concerned about him honoring his commitment to us. There will always be a $EC or PAC team that come calling offering his parents a job or some other benefit.

For the record, I want him here as much as everyone else does. I just have my concerns with last minute poaching.
That would really SUCK. If we want our beloved basketball program to be big time again, I'm afraid UNLV football needs to get their act together and start carrying the athletic program, instead of basketball having to do it. Time for UNLV athletics to act like big boys and let the football program pay for everybody else.

Interesting how he magically was removed from the ESPN 300 list as the only player going to a non-major program. He dropped from being list in the top 200 to not even being on the list in one day!

You aren't wrong...

But the mentality for years was 'We are a basketball school!'.

I feel like the basketball and football programs are moving in opposite trajectories. Basketball has been stagnant for a whole decade, and football has changed drastically. They have a real, experienced D1 coaching staff that have an actual plan and the culture and general attitude around the program is very positive, plus the recruiting is top notch so far.

There was a lot of bad juju in Sam Boyd and the LAC. The program feels brand new in Allegiant/Fertitta. Won't be surprised if Football is driving the bus for UNLV more than basketball ever did in the next few years.
