It was probably basketball season a month ago since the writing was pretty much on the wall

with football. Any real surprise with football?

First real game Tuesday.

I haven't met Coach yet, hope to at some point in the near future. So what I hear is second hand info. I posted something similar to this earlier, a week or two ago, but it's being repeated.

Of the court, nice dude, well liked.

On the court, he's a different guy. Pretty meticulous with everything. It's his way or don't see minutes. Some are having a little more difficulty adjusting to that, which makes sense, because there weren't a lot of constraints with MM. You don't play a certain way for a season or two and just snap into the way a new coach wants it. He has expectations and accountability to a man. From tiny things such as the way they enter or exit a game to handshakes, etc. On court, he was described to me as an asshole, but a fair asshole. Which I actually love if that's the way he is because I can identify with it pretty well - I'm the same way in the workplace. Friendship, whether I personally like you or not... that doesn't matter to me. You either consistently perform and get a pat on the back or you don't and you'll hear from me. Not a lot of wiggle room - there's a standard, meet it and surpass it or you don't. I think it's simple, but I see that some people have an issue with it. Whatever.

That doesn't mean he's going to win, it doesn't mean he's going to lose, it's just a philosophy we haven't seen around here so I'm eager to see how it takes hold. But I do think it's going to take some cycling of players and some upped recruiting.

In standard games (non-blowouts, non-injury games), we are going to see a shorter rotation sooner than later. I don't expect that right off the bat, but I think he's pretty much got it whittled down. I expect it to hit maybe eight guys in those standard games with the eight guy maybe getting 8-10 minutes. So that's a tiny rotation which is another thing I don't mind as long as the physical conditioning is there to make it through a season without running out of gas.

It's kind of sounding like he's a more strict Kruger type, more offensive minded of course. But I'm not talking strategy, I'm talking approach to the game, managing players. He'll be a well liked personality off the court, from what I'm hearing people will enjoy meeting him. But on the court, a different demeanor. Kruger was the same in that regard, seems too nice off the court, but very competitive on the floor.

I do think we'll have some growing pains this year. The schedule is tougher, it's a new system and style, new rules for the players, much, much higher accountability. So that part will be interesting, but for better or worse with the schedule, I'd much rather see that stuff installed and static as soon as possible. With the last guy, we never really could tell what his plan was going to be, it was kind of nondescript and foggy. Rice was freedom based. So this is going to be different than what we've seen for the past few years. We will see how effective it will be.
