It can be done.

Need a champion, community support and a really good coach

It can. In both sports.

But something like what you posted is an absolute freakish anomaly.

And I do agree that it “can” happen, but good has been happening to others sporadically and it keeps skipping UNLV.

You can name many of the “even a blind squirrel can eventually dig up an acorn”’s for UNLV. But there aren’t man

You really can’t count anything Tark - even the Iowa comeback or beating #1 AZ in the S16, we were a high level program for so many years and even our bad years were better than our current years.

1998 WAC tournament, yep, we were a complete afterthought.

Wisconsin in the round of 32, for sure. (Not so much Gtech, though it was fun).

If you wanted, you could say beating #1 UNC or at a really good UNR team with Jojo, but those were so fleeting and led to nothing good (well, the UNC thing did up us in rankings and we made the NCAA’s with ease, still a quality team).

Football, sure you can name a few games here and there, like the Utah domination. As for seasons, I did think Horton’s bowl year and win over UNR were unexpected and gave us a nice season that kept our interest. Even Jrobs year where we beat Arkansas in the bowl, super fun year and we all hoped/thought it would lead to more.

But big “breaks” that really impacted the future of our programs. You don’t find them at UNLV. We’ve had one horrifically bad break (ousting Tark).

It can be done, but it’s always at other schools, not here.

Then again, maybe we are overdue.
