Rebels looking good so far leading 20-9. Keep it up boys!

"If Indiana takes care of the basketball in the second half they will win."

Nice to know we're getting no respect in the halftime show. Reminds me of a UCLA fan who said they would have blown us out if it wasn't for the turnovers.

41-34 halftime lead. In good position. Gotta keep it up. McCaw and Nwamu were great first half. Carter also had some great spots.

Never thought I'd be this mad after a win. What the hell was that? We should have easily won by more than just 3. And why is making free throws so difficult?

As difficult as they made it for themselves going 3/8 at the line at the end (I think), and that turnover with :04 seconds left, they made the plays necessary to overcome.

Will be exciting to see them take on Oregon at the MGM next Friday.

Feels like a loss. That is the worst 2 minutes of basketball I have ever witnessed by a UNLV basketball club! I just don't know what to say. Terrible.

I'm a little less confident in this team than I was Sunday.

Good win. Some positives to take away from this game, especially defensive intensity and Ben Carter was fantastic, held down the fort with Zimm not feeling well and in foul trouble.

Thought Dave Rice did a good job with managing the bench and subbing around foul trouble.

Considering he took some heat for the team being flat yesterday, he should get some credit for having them ready to play today, especially early on.

Negatives-Some of the shot selection, and guys being a little loose with the ball. Every once in awhile the ball movement stagnates a bit.

Maybe all the hand wringing, wailing and gnashing of teeth was a little premature 4 games into a 30 game season.

This team was up 13 with under 4 minutes left and was in danger of losing the game. Why couldn't Ike make a single one of his 4 free throws? I'm concerned about his ability to hit clutch free throws.

The other 38 minutes were pretty good though. And a W is a W. No such thing as style points.

I get there are some things to work on. Just not sure how a win over a top 25 team (who may or may not have been overated) isn't more positive than negative. If IU turns things around in the BIG10 this is a big win on our resume.

Announcers need to do a basic amount of homework before the games they are calling don't they? Walton calling McCaw McGraw and against UCLA they said Dave Rose a couple times. It's trivial but still cmon have some respect for your profession. Great win for Rebels.

A win is a win, is a win...I thought the Rebels deserved this one, at least for 39 minutes. That final minute was a nightmare. Just when we were ready to announce that the real Ike Nwamu had shown up, he puts the victory in jeopardy by clanking not one, not two, not three, but four straight free throws!
It was nice to see the rest of the team (the ailing Zim excluded) making their
foul shots.

Taking nothing away from a great Rebel victory, but it's hard to say whether this will wind up being a quality win. Indiana needs to pull it together in Big 10 play. They certainly have perimeter shooters, but we'll have to see if that translates into wins.

As far as Walton, he's always been terrible. As soon as I saw him covering the UCLA game I immediately switched to Sandler and Smith simulcasting the games.
Someone needs to remind him that there's a basketball game going on. He thinks his anecdotes are so clever. Sorry Bill, you were a great player, but as a commentater...you were a great player.

So a feather in the Rebels cap, for sure, but lets not forget we beat Arizona last year, which was a bigger win than this, and wound up with a very disappointiong season. So let's maintain the commitment and go on to great things. First up, Prairie View on Saturday. A seeming step down, but if the Rebels play to the level of the competition, they'll lose their edge.

Go Rebels!!

Not to mention the whole fiasco of him (Walton) not understanding the silent "N" in "Nwamu" yesterday.

A few other random thoughts...

It's impossible to recognize anyone but Pat McCaw as the MVP of the game and the team, but what a showing from Ben Carter!...

When Indiana tied it up and the lead appeared to be slipping away (again), it was Big Ben, seemingly everywhere, making shots and defending his a** off. Grabbing boards and blocking shots. I have to admit, I saw his stat line from Oregon, and wondered why we wanted him. I will now officially eat my words. No way we win this game without his enormous contributions....

Also, Dwayne Morgan didn't score a point, but he had a suoerb game too. Eight rebounds, and all critical plays. And solid "D".His basketball IQ from last season to this one has sky-rocketed....

Coach Rice and his staff deserve credit for having the team ready to play, after the heart-breaking loss to UCLA, and the lackluster start vs Chamanade. They clearly had the edge over the Hoosiers from the opening tip....

I'm still not sold on Seagears, but he had his best game at the point. Maybe he'll be "the answer" after all, and not just another Cody Doolin disappointment. We'll see...

Maybe Jordan Cornish should consult a shrink. As a freshman he was a national leader in 3-point percentage. He remains 0-for 2015 so far. It has to be in his head....

I don't think all wins are the same. If we were averaging 50-60 points a game with a 5-1 record, people would be criticizing Rice for not having his team play at a fast tempo, etc.

One reason I am optimistic is our team is forcing turnovers, pressuring other teams, scoring a lot, etc. They are doing things that previous UNLV teams were not doing.

I was just frustrated because the team did such a great job for 38 minutes (and did it with Zimmerman doing so little) and almost threw that away. I'd like to see this team get ranked in the top 25 and don't want people to think we got lucky and barely won. A commentator at halftime dismissed our first half performance and suggested that Indiana simply beat themselves by turning it over. He gave no credit to our defense at all.

Ben Carter is a lot better than I thought he would be. At best I thought he would be a limited player who would play hard and be a team player. Glad I was wrong.

Curious to see how the team finishes out nonconference play. Just getting Zimmerman and whoever else was sick recovered should give this team a big improvement.

The commentators after the game were annoying. They gave no credit to our defense(which I thought was pretty lively and effective at forcing turnovers) and pretty much dismissed the team. The last minute was a complete fiasco but Jay Williams and Seth Greenberg were being especially condescending about it, as though the entire game was played that way.

I liked the body language of the team and as Vegas007 said, the team is playing good defense, not just going through the motions. We can be very, very good if we keep focused and unselfish.

I agree, the condescension on the part of the ESPN commentators is annoying and insulting to the team. But perhaps it can be a positive for the Rebels.

The longer they fly below the radar of national attention, the better. Let Oregon and Utah and Wichita State (Arizona will be playing with revenge in mind) all dismiss us as lucky. We just might surprise them.

Go Rebels!!

Another thing I am loving right now is how so many guys can step up with 20 point games.

You often hear that a team has so many guys that can beat you. It really is true with the Rebels. We have 5 guys that can legitimately get a 20 point game, and that isn't including guys that can just have a career night.

What I like is that they are not folding at the end but finding a way to win. Getting that stop when they need it.

WHat we didn't see: Full court press. It worked, and kept the guys a little fresher, but still didn't see it. I would have liked to maybe coming out of halftime for awhile.

We also didn't see: Green play again, Poyser only in for 2 minutes.

Carter for player of the game, and all 5 of his boards were on the offensive glass. Not even the points, but his hustle.

Shooter of the game: Ike. Filled up the 3pt baskets, couple dunks early. Struggled on free throws, but that's UNLV for ya.

That game took a few years off my life. What happened to the press? When we had that 11 pt lead with a couple of minutes left we need to dig our heels in and put them away. Glad we got the win, it takes some of the Alford stink off me. Keep grinding. Go Rebels!
