In case anyone is watching?

I just start watching when it was 52-47. How did our team get to 52 points? The offense has really struggled and Cal just tied it up.

It’s an improvement though. If Menzies was coaching the team would be playing nobody and I wouldn’t be watching yet. At least there is a real schedule this year and for a 1st year coach this is not a bad start.

True though, if I was more excited about the season I would have tuned in earlier.

Dude...I really like the system that Otz runs. It's clear the players are buying in. Our defensive showing is impressive. The ball movement on the offensive side is equally as impressive.

I'm listening to it. So far this season the team already seems mentally tougher than previous teams, but it's early. Hope they keep up the gritty play.

The ball movement got a lot better after Cal tied it up. The system has worked; the team has gotten several layups. It sure beats Dave Rice’s offense when players had a lot of “freedom” and would be chucking up bad threes and midrange jumpers.

Ugh. I don’t have any expectations either, but this is still disappointing when I feel that the team should be 3-0.

Our lack of depth and outside shooting is really going to hurt us. We can't seem to figure out the zone either, probably because of the lack of shot creators and outside shooting. I'm sure Otzelberger would do better with this if we had more shooters.

Winning time plagued Menzies and it appears we still haven't figured it out back to back games with last shot opportunities 2 clock violations. Coach Otz can't be happy about that no excuse for not getting shots off.
I have faith he'll figure it out just frustrating losses but a lot of fight in the boys hope they figure it out.

Upset that they lost 2 OT games but definitely seen some positives. Let's see how they do at UCLA

Despite the OT losses, this team seems to be playing hard and They seem to have potential to improve. The improved schedule will help during conference play. I never had confidence that Menzies teams would get better. This team gives me some hope.

Aside from a tiny handful of blind people, I don’t think anybody had confidence in MM.

He was busy trying to pile up wins vs the Sisters of the Poor and inflate the record (yet we still dropped many of those games) and impress people. Worked on some people. But no wonder they didn’t improve, he didn’t test them, he didn’t schedule anybody. And he was afraid of the road. Thank God Otz doesn’t share that same scared of competition, we are victims, let me insert excuses before the fact, “slow growth” philosophy. All to create a distraction to the actual truth.

Hopefully this is the worst the team will ever be with Otz and we’ll see plenty of improvement in years 2 and 3. Something the previous coaches really struggled with.

How can you predict the future? What do you have ESPN or something?

Major concern that I, and I assume everyone else paying enough attention to be posting here, have is depth.

Through 3 games, only 8 players have seen the floor. Likely the same in the 4th. If the benches don't get emptied a little, even with guys only getting 5-10 mins, we are in for a long, painful season. This isn't the Hardway Eight era, and these players are not those. It's a great way to have your top 5 players be absolutely crushed before conference play.

Iwonder if this is a first four games where he wants to see how hard these top 5-6 can be pushed and will back off between game 5 and conference play. Then call on them again in crunch time in conference and tourney play.

I think/hope that’s what we will see.

But even for this year, no matter the w/l record, where we are weak right now, I want to see improvement over the course of the season. I want to see players turn corners individually too.

You can’t gauge that game to game, there are good games and bad games and fluky games. Month to month, just get better in the weaker areas. It doesn’t have to become a strength, but I want to see it improve. Even though I said game to game isn’t worth gauging, game two we had 25 turnovers and it was a huge reason for the loss. That wasn’t really slashed down in game 3... hopefully the game 3 turnovers become the norm....

Depth will really cause an issue somewhere midway through conference play, imo.

The MWC road games are a grind and I could see these guys struggling in Colorado and Wyoming.. not to mention getting up for those games has been a challenge for UNLV in the past.
