Ike and Jerome...and Jalen

These seniors make the worst plays ever. Their constant 3's with no one under the rim and horrible dribble penetration/turnovers....they should not be in at the end of games.

Jalen made half of our teams field goals during the second half... I believe we only hit 6 in the entire second half. He made 3 of them yet didn't get a touch the last couple minutes after he got us the lead.

I have to say that Nwamu hasn't impressed me at all as far as playing within the 'team' concept. He seems to be more preoccupied with getting a shot off than burning energy playing defense or making a sincere effort to create opportunities for teammates. Seagears is what he is. A 6-1 shooting guard. If we had a true point guard that'd be ok but this is like having Anderson Hunt play point for us...without the defensive chops of course. But then who else but Rice is to blame for playing these guys? They continue to start and get major minutes despite continuing to do things detrimental to the team. If Rice wanted to make a point he should've done it weeks ago. It's probably too late now.

Why can everyone else see this and Rice cant? I stated from day 1 Seagears not a PG, need Poyser starting at PG.

Not sure how many watch the players one on one effort on defense. I do... lol. And from day 1 IKE has given very little effort in D. He will play OK D for a play or two then just get lazy. His guy gets by him easily. He is not on his toes doing everything he can to stay in front of his guy. Offensively he is all about Ike.

I watch them individually and noticed how poorly Ike plays defense. Ike hasn't met a shot he doesn't like even if it is from 30 feet, he is terrible at team ball. You nailed it on Seagars, no ball skills and out of control.

To top if off Zimm gets thrown around, notice how many times he just got pushed away by one arm on D even by the Fresno guards driving to the bucket and then that tip in by Fresno, he tried to box out with very little effort and just got pushed under the basket with little force. This team is not going anywhere, Rice could have Oklahoma's team and would make them mediocre. It is clearly the incompetent coach and his poor management of personnel.

One thing is for sure there is no tournament this year, they look exactly like last years team, lazy and uninspired. I just can't believe that Rice is that blind that he can't see what the fans see.

Agree 100%. I'll give you credit you were on this from the jump. I held out hope Seagears was going to play like a PG this year. I was clearly wrong.

My hope for the new year is starters minutes at PG for Poyser. Id gladly accept any growing pains for the chance he can make us look like a real half-court offense.

False. And sad.
Past performance tells you what the future holds. It may be a hard reality, but this is a 1 bid league. It appears as if what we have seen in the past is what we are getting right now. Rice has not shown that he can go into the tournament and win 3 in 3 days. Close games he tends to get out coached. I would love to see UNLV get to the tournament, but want to also face reality and not expect it.

This year has been a real let down, more than any other year. Just look at our road record in conference over the past couple seasons. That is why I am not confident we will make the dance. We have Utah State on the road with no return visit, Colorado State, Fresno St, Boise State, San Diego State, Nevada, New Mexico, Air Force maybe even Wyoming are all road games we may not win or win only 1 or 2 of them, How many do we lose at home?,

Just look at Riverside, we struggled to close that out. While I hope Rice can make some changes like Poyser starting, focus on getting the ball to the bigs and stop the horrible shot selection, turnovers and the team improving with Free Throws, less minutes for Seagars and Ike. Rice has not shown he can not change or adjust. All of this is a recipe for disaster like last season.

Again, false. Simplistic and fundamentally incorrect.

I share a lot of your anger, but we have 17 MWC games to play and nobody in the league looks very good. To say this team can't improve and win the league is nonsense.

Make your predictions, but slow down with the "can't" is all. These kids can and may still prove you completely wrong before all is said and done.

Happy new year.

I have confidence in the players, not so much with the coaching. Home court advantage is never more evident than in the Mountain West. Revisit this in March!!

Writing off the season one game into conference play means you have no faith in either. Like I said, sad.

Revisit in March. Sure.

We all have opinions!!! Not writing the season off, just not so optimistic anymore. We have seen this movie before and it just keeps repeating over and over. Good players, bad decisions, bad coaching. Success is based off of these three. I hope I am wrong, however that being said, if they come home 0-3 or even 1-2 in conference next week. The writing is on the wall.

All good friend, yes, different strokes.

Quick hothetical for you, not intended to be a gotcha in any way:
---Rice starts Poyser next game at PG, He plays 30 solid minutes and grabs the job. Rebs get hot and win 9 of their next 10... Maybe drop one road game is all during that stretch. Not blowing teams out, just winning and taking care of the basketball---

Would that have you back onboard with Rice? Or would you still think the program is perna-hopeless because CDR?

Of course winning and making good coaching decisions would change things. People like Rice personally and the fact he is a Rebel. They just upset with his lack.of coaching ability and record so that changes then yes most will be behind Rice. I hope your scenario comes true. 10% chance

Rice is fighting for his job... 9 out 10 times a Senior plays smart basketball and knows what is within the flow of the game. Rice trusts that.... However, we seem to find Seniors who dont know this... Doolin- awful at times with in game scenarios, Seagers supposedly the Smart answer, Just wasting possessions like they grow on trees, and Ike... Oh he can take over a game but that goes both ways.. Good Ike, we win and make it look easy, Bad Ike and we look bad in critical moments, and not to mention hes inconsistent, one game hes good, another hes awful, awful just happens to show up in bigger moments. All this leads to question at what point does Rice ditch the Seniors and let his talented underclassmen play. It took an injury last year to get Pat more minutes, but its about time that Rice places Ike and Jerome on the bench and let Jalen/Cook grow...
