You probably wont find it on Rivals. However I did notice a couple of positives. Love the 3-4 we are utilizing. LB is definitely our strength on D and we were able to platoon most of the entire D without much if any noticeable drop off.

Quote of the night was from Caleb Herring regarding running backs running into Rayshad Jackson “is like running into the side of a house”. What a great pick up as we haven't had a player like him in a long time if ever. Also props to true freshman Jacoby Windmon. Bright future at UNLV.

The coaching staff seems to have figured out a way to help Armani become more effective and remain healthy which is vital to this team’s success. And the long pass catch by true freshman Steve Jenkins on an under thrown ball was a thing of beauty.

Biggest concern I saw was our punt return game. It doesn’t exist! If it doesn’t improve put 11 guys up to block the punt.

This team will hopefully win the next couple of games and then find a way to stay healthy and continue to improve through the tough stretch and finish the season strong.

A lot of positives.

One breakdown on defense (it's going to happen once in awhile) that lead to a big gain for them, but otherwise a very solid performance on defense.

Offense was solid. Chuck is positioned for a big year.

Armani was Armani.

People need to realize he probably will never be Pat Mahomes or Drew Brees throwing darts completing 70% of his passes. He doesn't need to be though. Just has to be smart with the ball and make the occasional throw to keep defenses honest.

From my perspective a big positive was the almost complete lack of penalties. I remember the Sanford teams that would be penalized what seemed like hundreds of yards in a game. No mountain west team has the talent to overcome a lack of discipline so it was refreshing to see mistake free football. If we can keep our heads in the game it could very well be the difference in a couple of close match-ups.

The primary thing with Armani, he has to avoid some of the hits he took last night. He slide a lot more but he also got greedy of plays that could have caused unnecessary injuries.

Another positive was the play of Oblad. His throws were usually right there are he seemed like he was in the flow for the most part.

The Rebs could have score 70 points if chose to. Looks like a football team

Yeah but people would rather talk about Tony Sanchez’ chances of getting fired.

It's not so much that people want to talk about it..

But when an AD puts a bowl or bust type ultimatum out there, it becomes a part of the narrative the entire season.

The Rebs looked solid this weekend. No doubt. They also looked solid vs Idaho State and Prairie View in years past. Only to finish with a losing record.

It's difficult to make any real evaluation vs that opponent. SUU had one of the worst defenses in the FCS last year.

UNLV handled them like they should have..

I like a lot of the looks on defense. Skipper brought pressure from a lot places. It was aggressive. Good to see. Limited the run game also good to see.

All that said, Sanchez future is going to be a hot topic on these boards until the Rebels bowl chances are determined one way or another.

If they beat Ark State it will go a long way towards quieting that talk. If they beat Ark State and Wyoming, they probably go bowling barring an epic collapse. Lose one or both of these games the talk will heat up again.

You are correct as usual but it just seems it could be given maybe a 48 hr reprieve after a victory before starting it up again.

I know what you're saying Pete. It would be nice if the headlines were more about 'Rebs Win' vs 'Sanchez' on the hot seat.

This weekend could help quiet those talks considerably.

The "easy"/"mail it in" game is in the rearview and, thankfully, with the desired result. Now we get to see what kind of prognosticators we really have on this board. I know most were picking Wyoming for a W. Do you still feel that way? Heck, two out of the three P5 losses were by two of the top three MW teams, and I don't see anyone thinking they're any worse than originally thought. But UNR? UH? Better than first thought? The MW looked good opening weekend, but they were all - except Charity St U - one score games. We have a razor thin margin for error, and I'm going to stay positive until they give me a reason not to.

Ark State isn't a must win. But it's about as close to one as a game in week two can be.

I don’t think beating a team that you are a four touchdown favorite is going to squash talks of what the AD actually said last season and some of the behind the scenes stuff last year. Of course, it’s a “site specific” thing, exists nowhere else.

Imagine that, people not jumping all over the bandwagon of a program with 4 winning seasons in since Woodrow Wilson was in office ... I saw very little criticism, very little jubilation. In my estimation, that seems pretty appropriate given the current and past standing.

Too bad we can’t get Howard next week and actually win the game. Then we could start the BCS bowl busting and Heisman talk.

Take off your reality goggles please.

Arkansas game is also a game that UNLV is favored in, so I do consider it a must win game, and even if they win that game, it will not change that many peoples minds regarding UNLV until they can win a game they shouldn't win.

If UNLV wins vs Ark State to go to 2-0, they probably go 0-5 or 1-4 over the next five to get to 3-4 or 2-5... because of the way the schedule works out ... and because of the way the rest of the schedule is, they can still crack a bowl game.

But there’s not going to be many fans performing cartwheels with a 3-4 or 2-5 record. Sounds like some people believe there should be a record setting amount of cartwheels but I’ll stick with what would be the reality instead of putting my head in dreamy place...

It all comes down to Ark State and Wyoming.

Win both Rebs go bowling and might flirt with 7-8 wins.

Lose one it gets dicey.

Lose both...

Maybe we can start an Urban Meyer GoFundMe page..

Hopefully he get to start in his junior and senior years, unlike TB

Depends.

They like the QB that just committed a lot.

There's also a true freshman on the roster now that had a pretty decent Spring.

This is life, this is football, survival, competition, there are no participation trophies in life, business or football. It will never be his turn, he is gonna have to fight for it and earn it. Something that seems to be lost on much of the younger generation.

He'll be in the mix. Still only a true sophomore.

Already improved from last year.

Agree, much better and more awareness on the field. Also I just edited my last post. Was really responding to Trip.
Believe me I believe in working for it. I just think he’s better than anyone CTS have brought in thus far

It was nice to see the QB play from Oblad...but what about the cheering on 3rd downs from the other Oblad. He and two of his children along with his hot wife were loud as hell.

We were pretty happy after the game. I am too old for cartwheels, and wouldn't have been performing them.

The Rebels took care of business. Lots of positives. We were concerned the the dbs sometimes looked like last year., but the Rebels dominated both lines.

Gotta see this week. Over the years nice early wins over less than stellar opponents have misled us many times. Arkansas State may be fired up to win one for their coach.

But, today, I am happy. A win Saturday would make me show my dentures.

Let's revisit this. This is "Exhibit A" as to why fans don't do cartwheels when you "look good" against a 25 point underdog.

Some things never change. if wins and losses matters, unlv doesn't hire a high school coach, and then keep him years after he's proven he can't coach at this level. Time to take the shiny facilities and hire a real coach

The coach is good. The program is good. There is progress.

It’s the sites fault. Fans are to blame. Didn’t you read the OP.

It’s the same thing with hoops. Mahvelous was actually great. The fans sucked.
