Differently than most of our fans.
Listen, short of the MWCT championship, we ain't dancing. That was established long ago. It's not a big deal. While wins and losses are big deals, they really aren't that big of a deal when you aren't going to make the NCAA's. Not to me anyway. So the losses don't hurt, the wins don't excite, unless they come in the MWCT.
Growth is important and the speed of growth is important to me. I definitely think this team has grown, I don't see this loss as some huge defining moment as a setback. Did we grow in a double digit loss? No, not growth. But I still saw us, for the better part of the game (last few minutes of desperation was different)... that the team wasn't dribbling the ball much. There was ball movement, screens, shots that were open... we just happened to have guys that didn't hit buckets. Defensively, I thought we were relatively poor and I'm not trying to pin it on one guy, but one guy can't consistently miss defensively and throw off the entire balance of the defense because he cannot defend. That happened far too many times and certainly had an impact on the outcome of the game. There was a bit more to it than "just missing shots", but in general, this game, other than the outcome and maybe the urgency/energy/focus, wasn't a ton different than some of our most recent games. They ran offense, they weren't confused, the plays were there, they just didn't make many of them.
I still have some reservations about a lot of things, but I'm not incredibly disappointed about tonight - it sucks because it was a loss and it was UNR. BTW, we will pounce on them here....
Hoping that the urgency, the aggression, the focus that we were missing tonight shows up Sunday more strongly than it has at any point this season.
